Having some clarity into the role you want to get into post MBA makes life hell a lot easier.

Most of the aspirants don’t have a clear idea of what they want to do and assume that the 2 years will help them figure that out. And though that is true.

But still having some direction goes a long way to smooth things over.

Simply because MBA moves at a faster pace than the aspirants can imagine. You get a couple of months, (during my MBA I got 2 for setting some context), before the madness of summer placements start.

And not having clarity on roles and majors could lead to you interning in a role you don’t want to pursue for final placements.

Consequently, missing out on PPO opportunities, missing out on shortlists in finals in roles you might then desire and added headache of justifying your change in heart during interviews.

So my 2 cents – Use the 2 years to fine tune your aspirations but use this year of your CAT preparations to alongside also reflect on a broad career path you wish to pursue.

You can start by mulling over 2 important questions –

1. What kind of roles/industries I am excited to work in?
2. Will I be happy doing this 10 years from now?

This brought me to Consulting ahead of joining my MBA program. I used the 2 years at TAPMI and my internship at Deloitte Consulting to figure out the specifics.
