A lot of people think that an MBA is mostly meant for those with either a B.Com or a B.Tech degree, and that it’s very difficult for others to crack it, which, I can confidently say, is a myth.
There’s also a perception that most students in the top B-schools of our country come from tier-1 cities. While that might not be entirely false, it certainly doesn’t mean it’s impossible for others to make it. Yes, it is absolutely possible to clear these entrance exams and interviews without formal offline coaching or premium study material.

Why am I saying this with such confidence? Because I did something very similar this year.
Hi, I’m Rishav Seth, a B.Pharm graduate chasing my MBA dream. I’ve been fairly consistent in my academics, with a profile of 9/9/8. In this attempt, I scored 92 percentile in CAT and a 233 in NMAT.
Now, looking at my profile, one might assume that I would opt for MBA in Pharmaceutical Management if I join NMIMS Mumbai, and that’s a very logical assumption. In fact, even the interviewers asked me the same question.
But I have a different perspective.
I believe in exploring wider opportunities instead of limiting myself to a field I’m already familiar with. My goal is to interact with peers from diverse domains, learn from their experiences, and further strengthen my profile. I can still return to the pharmaceutical industry after completing my MBA but now, I’ll be equipped with a broader skill set and a deeper understanding of multiple industries.
That’s the beauty of an MBA. It doesn’t restrict you.
And this is the opportunity I’ve worked towards, dedicating two full years to chase it.
It was never easy to even make the decision to switch to a completely different field, but I achieved it with just a simple online guidance.
It doesn’t matter how many candidates applied for CAT or NMAT, or how tough the paper was this year. What matters most is how honest you are with yourself and how strong your ambition is. With hard work and clear direction, success will follow.
Yes, the journey was filled with challenges. But my belief in myself and the zeal to chase my dream brought me this far.
