Peeping through the car window, moving along a narrow paved road, which I later came to know is called Sus Road, I saw a building on top of a hill. The map on my Uber app showed a series of hairpin turns which were yet to come. This was the first time I was visiting the campus of my b-school - Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune. The hairpin turns led me to the premises of SIBM, sitting on top of the hill like a crown. Well, I had fought a good number of battles to reach the crown. And finally, standing in front of the black main gate of the college, I realized that each one of it was worth the effort.
With an early onset of monsoon in Pune region, it seemed like each drop of rain had been assigned a special task in the heavens to rejuvenate every leaf which could meet the eye. With the statue of Goddess Saraswati accompanied by a peacock in front of the eyes and the sound of the same bird reaching the ears from the nearby woods, one cannot help but to leave all the negativities behind and yearn to make his/her life better. This was probably the first time in my life that I was seeing a static environment, with nothing moving by an inch, except my soul, which was jumping with joy and enthusiasm. The coolness of the white coloured buildings along with the surrounding greenery was a perfect signal to move forward, both deeper into the campus as well as in life.
Moving forward, I came across probably the most important element on our earth, water. No, not just a puddle by a recent shower, but a rainwater harvesting project, reminding me to think not only about myself but also for others, especially for the generations which are yet to come.
The campus is home not only to business management students but also to students pursuing an education in mass communication, telecom management and sports management. With the mix of such a wide variety of people, with a different focus in life, one gets to learn a lot from his/her peers looking at different aspects of life from different angles.
The campus of SIBM Pune is unique in the sense that it bestows upon us all the blessings nature can give to mankind, be it in the form of scenic beauty, “intellectual beauty” or the spiritual one.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would want to work for ADITYA BIRLA FASHION AND RETAIL LIMITED (ABFRL). Being a fan of Peter England shirts myself, I want to contribute my marketing skills coupled with my experience in Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance the reach and brand value associated with ABFRL. With digital technologies touching every individual’s life in known and unknown ways, there are still a lot of potential customers, who would love to dress up in a Van Heusen shirt or a pair of Forever 21 types of denim. On the same page, I would like to learn about the nitty-gritty of Retail Management from the industry leader itself. Specifically, I would like to learn about segmentation (particularly demographic and geographical) as well as management of a wide range of brands at one place.
