The world is large and so is the Aditya Birla group, just have a look around you and you will never miss them. ABG which was founded in 1857, i.e. 162 years ago has extended its roots from base to top with so many products that it is merely impossible to live without their products. The clothes we wear, the house in which we live in, the heart of the cell phone all are directly or indirectly related to ABG. Even the shirt which I wore for one of my most important interviews was of “Peter England” - ABG’s one of the best and renowned fashion store.

In such a short span of time, ABG has been able to spread its wings in almost every dimension and is leading the whole market. Its various ventures including the Hindalco industries, Grasim industries, Birla carbon, Ultra tech cement limited have created a legacy among other sectors.

Apart from various ventures, the group is constantly working towards the upliftment of poor and needy people with various CSR activities, their main agenda is working towards building a better sustainable way of life for weaker sections of society and raising the country’s human development index has won a million of hearts. This shows their trust in basic value – integrity, as they have worked and are still working for reviving the existing problematic conditions.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

So, for me, the journey to IIM Raipur was just like a sine curve i.e. “full of crest and troughs.”

Since my school days, I was not that proficient in verbal section but I somehow managed to score well and got through. Because of good performance in IIT Mains and 12th board, I managed to pursue my engineering from a good college, and from there the real journey started, as peer learning lead me to know about my flaws and negatives and how much I lacked knowledge. I started reading English newspapers and novels to improve my verbal proficiency.

Being a part of various clubs and committees and managing so many events subsequently led me to know about my interests in managing fields and I finally decided to go for an MBA. The main thought was to enter the corporate world, get some experience and then pursue an MBA from a deemed B-school, but the things always go other way round as after joining Accenture which is one of the best IT and Consultancy firm I was unable to develop my interest in Java and PL/SQL which was my allotted stream, I failed in the Accenture greenfield training and hence was asked to resign, that was the time when I felt dejected and got depressed but you never know what’s coming next, and hence I started preparing for CAT with full focus and calmness and finally scored well and eventually landed up in India’s one of the best B-school “IIM Raipur.”

When I look back towards my journey, I feel apart from my hard work and self-motivation it was the pain of dejection which helped me to extend my boundaries and move ahead in my career. So, when it’s said that “Failure is the first step to success” it’s pretty much right.
