I am a student who is pursuing an MBA and as per the curriculum, we are supposed to do an internship for a period of 2 months in our second year. Summer Internships are very crucial as they are the first exposure for any B-school grad to the corporate life. RSM was one of the reputed organization which came to our campus for the recruitment process. Just like my fellow mates, I also applied for its recruitment process. RSM shortlists students based on their resume and then the selected students appear for the personal interview. Luckily, I made it to the interview process and a few weeks later, a mail pops up in my inbox and I was thrilled to know that I got selected as an Audit Intern at RSM Astute Consulting Pvt Ltd.
While I waited for the list of shortlisted students, I started preparing for it. I interacted with the seniors to get insights of their internship experiences, brushing up various concepts and terminology of finance. One of the important things which helped me crack the interview was reading about RSM inside out. I went through their website, reading about various domains of finance in which they are working, let it be taxation, auditing, consultancy services, risk advisory and so on. Mock interviews and group discussions conducted by our alumni committee was really helpful in boosting my confidence.
I was quite overwhelmed by Mumbai, the city of dreams. Residing in Mumbai was initially a big task, but with time it got sorted. I had a learning experience getting up early in the morning to travelling in local trains to coming back home at night and to manage everything on your own in Mumbai.
There is a saying which has true meaning.
Nothing goes to waste on the journey of life. Both good and bad experiences shape your mind and heart for what is to come.
I believe my experience has made me stronger to live in any city alone.
Internship Days-
On the first day, I along with a bunch of students from various top colleges reported to the HR. Orientation and formal training happened on the first day where we were briefed about the company rules and regulations. As it is an Audit firm , all the interns were allocated different clients the very next day. I got YES Bank as my client where I worked with the Commercial Bank Audit team as a concurrent auditor. Then, I interacted with my mentor who is the Partner in Audit and Risk Advisory Services. I spent my initial 1 week understanding the audit guidelines of a bank, various terminologies related to BFSI sector by talking to my mentor and reading the documents provided by the senior members of the team. I performed the audit of various cash management services and direct banking services of YES Bank. All the employees over there were really helpful, kind, humble and full of enthusiasm.
I made sure that these 2 months of internship help me during my final placements in terms of the knowledge and guidance gained from my mentor and the senior members of the team. Also, I got a chance to interact with some of the top management people at YES Bank.
My internship was fun yet challenging. I learnt a lot while working at RSM and I believe that RSM Astute Consulting Pvt Ltd is a great organization to work with where every employee works with full dedication and enthusiasm.
