And the 20 feet long white-board is full of data again!

The last professor had to deny students for taking suggestions anymore about how a US based airline could use different points to collect data! The overenthusiastic junta of my class is back reinvigorated after lunch. And the next professor comes in, gazes at the board, and got aghast with the content on the board. He explained some concepts such as Break-even analysis, Quality Function Deployment and then comes the real time of action.

A group task is given, prepare a break-even analysis chart for a product. The teams are randomly formed. Well in our team, Shashwat with a background in research is crunching numbers in his mind and uttering like a pro when we are not even able to cope with his speed on our calculators. Vijay is giving a new perspective on how this method can be used in a reverse way and we could reach at numbers using graphs without using any calculations. Vaibhav is presenting these thoughts in a very tidy manner on the paper. Shivani articulated the content in a very crisp manner and added some icing on the cake.

We presented the graphs, answering questions from professor and classmates was not a cakewalk, but we loved it. Not because it was totally engaging but because you learn best from your peers. Everybody here is carrying a unique experience of their own, a few from research, a few from start-ups, a few like me from corporates and yes a few with fresh perspectives.

Yes, we are a uniquely diverse batch and our professors know how to tap our potentials within, and that makes our every class a unique experience. Every class here starts and ends with a new learning, not just from the one on the other side of the bench but also from the ones sitting on the same side of the benches.

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited.

With cult brands like Van Heusen and Louis Philippe, coveted stores of Pantaloons, and emerging omni-channel markets like Abof.com, ABFRL is unique company per se. It can give diverse learnings on how offline, online and omni-channel markets work. It could give perspectives from the manufacturer’s side (Madura F&L), from the retailer’s side (Pantaloons) and also from the platform provider’s side (Abof).  This can be a dream come true for a budding marketer like me, who aspires to learn as much as one can about retail industry in his initial career phase.
