What is it in this world that measures a person’s value? Is it the Bank balance he has, the number of cars he owns or is it something intangible or nuanced that the person fails to see, but the world around him feels and reciprocates to? Well, I am a believer in the latter. For me, it’s a value that we hold unconsciously with us, reflected both in our actions & conversations, one which we develop over time with the experiences we face.
Now giving a thought to it, something rekindled memories of my first day at school. A dreamy-eyed kid, who had worn his first pair of stitched shirt & trousers from Sriguru Tailors, still unaware of his long-enduring journey. Since then, it had been a life of learning for him, on overcoming difficulties, helping people, sustaining love, motivating peers & practising empathy.
No sooner than all of this happened, he entered the final year of Academics and the spectre of D-day as an interview, largely looming over his head with a test of its own, to judge the value he had. It was a real test on what he assimilated from his surroundings and how he applied his experiences, but with a twist. It was not just his value in thoughts that grew but it was the change in his personality too. He was now looking out for something regal and passionate that matched his ambitions, but to his joy he soon found a box that his dad had delivered as a gift, opening the box, he found a light blue shirt that reminded him of his old uniform, but there was something new to it, something that amplified a sense of confidence.
He went ahead with it for his interview and returned as the first person to get placed in college. The party began, but the box still lay in his bed with a “Peter England” logo on it.
But life is a thread of many such stories & experiences, many rosy and many not. I am a gratitude driven person, this attitude has helped me stay positive and to keep little expectations from people, that to be at your toes always counts and the fact that world doesn’t owe you anything. All you can do is work hard and be worthy enough to make a point.
The one thing that clearly drives me is the overarching wellbeing of everything associated with me and this thought process has helped me prosper. I was always an average student, but someone who put above average efforts. People tend to forget that mediocrity is a power, it doesn’t put pressure on you but gives you enough time to introspect & assess others, put the best plan forward and eventually cross the line well before others. This simple yet enormous thought pushed me to work hard, took me from where I was then to where I am now.
To summarize it all, my confidence in my thought procedure helped me to be one among the few people from my college to get placed into a core Design Company, a dream every Mechanical Engineer has. From there, I picked up on my journey and continued working on a basis in line to my philosophy, showing diligence, patience & calm temperament to be a Sub leader in my last assignment at work, handling project, leading people and interacting with clients in my own terms.
