While life is filled with crests and troughs, it is inevitable that one must learn to accept the things as they stand and try to build one’s personality around it. This personality would define the way the society looks at a person.

I come from a family wherein my father worked in Tanzania, Africa for 22 years with a handsome pay and so, I was raised in the best conditions. Being good at academics, I secured an admission in one of the best schools in India for IIT-JEE preparation during my 11th and 12th standards. It demanded me to being in a hostel which was under-equipped in terms of infrastructure and food quality. While my parents continued to stay in Tanzania, my relatives supported me in India.

I was the topper of the institute during the 11th board examinations and everything was on song until my father started a Business on his own. Once he ran into financial crunch, my relatives stopped supporting me during the later half of 12th. Coming from a well-off family and not knowing monetary value, I suddenly started feeling low because of which I could not get through IIT-JEE.

The situation has only deteriorated once I came out of the hostel for a 3-month vacation before getting into my UG as I was not welcomed into any of our relatives’ house. Having only a handful of money and not wanting to disclose my situation to my parents as they were themselves in trouble, I had the toughest period of my life. All the arrogance, carelessness and pride I had were shot dead during this stint.

Having such experiences, I started concentrating more on the way people act during such situations and to probably help them out. Most of the students started getting addicted to alcohol and smoking which only deteriorated their condition both mentally and physically. Being a teetotaler, I made sure that I could curb such acts at least to some extent and give my support by motivating or talking through the situation.

People always need a helping hand and it becomes all more important when one is in trouble. Most of the successful people undergo such situations, fight it out and come out in flying colors. It is not only self-development but the effort to contribute to the welfare of the nearby people or society that makes a person fulfill his destiny.
