ABG Legacy

Shri Shiv Narayan Birla laid the cornerstone to the legacy of Birla Group in 1857. Over these 162 years, the Birla Group has committed to serve for the betterment of global society and its overall well being through its myriad businesses. Today's World is evolving at an unbelievable and unprecedented growth rate. With the changing world, we cannot isolate ourselves and one should keep abreast of the latest advances, be it the technology, fashion, etc.

After over 200 years of British plunder, India desperately needed strong and sustainable businesses to revive its economy. Birla group had businesses like Birla jute even before the independence but after independence, Aditya Birla Group has forayed into all the verticals ranging from Cement, Telecommunications, Fashion & Retail, Non-Ferrous Metals, Financial Services, Insurances, Textile Businesses spanning in 34 countries from 5 continents and a strong and diverse workforce of 1,20,000 belonging to 42 nationalities. Today, Aditya Birla Group is the largest global conglomerate in India with a revenue of whopping $ 42.3 Billion.

I’m no exception to millions who have been using Birla products throughout their lives. Grasim, a flagship company of ABG started in 1947 in India is a leading global player in VSF. ABG’s Idea Cellular disrupted the telecom industry developing exponentially and my father being a BSNL employee used to tell us how the global conglomerates are being disruptive in the telecommunication space. Virtually, I could imagine the threat to the government enterprise, BSNL, but ABG has created world-class digital experiences to connect and inspire every Indian to build a better tomorrow. Aditya Birla Group is home to fashion brands like Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England and People, the youth’s most preferable brands.

Although it is an undeniable fact that ABG has businesses in every walks of our life building a better tomorrow for us, I immensely respect ABG for its philanthropic activities and their contribution to society.  The vision of Birla Groups in education and philanthropy can be seen by the way BITS Pilani run by Birla Charity Trust, becoming the leading institutions in the country. These philanthropic activities date back to over 150 years, rooted in history. Education changes the way we perceive things and builds a civic sense in the citizens of the country. Birla family had a keen interest in the educational initiatives influenced by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Being a student graduated from IIT BHU, We, the current generations are the great beneficiaries of that forethought towards education. Birla was an admirer of Gandhi and wanted his wealth to assist all of  Gandhi’s endeavors leading to Independence.

While Birla Group through its myriad businesses changed the face of Indian products in the world markets, the philanthropic & CSR activities rooted in their legacy made every individual in the world love and admire them.

Never Give up, Never settle.

The journey of every life is faced with many challenges. Challenge is what makes life interesting and exuberant. We have to tackle every problem in our life sportively by considering it as a challenge and transform and change the problem to an opportunity. Change is the only constant thing in life. we cannot remain stranded at the mercy of currents. One should embrace change and continuously strive to be a better person at every moment of his life for a better tomorrow. Our ability to handle every challenge is a measure of our character. This has been my philosophy and the ever driving force throughout my life.

I'm a hardworking person with a calm demeanor and a "Never Give Up" attitude. During my graduation, I worked on a project called Aerostruct in a technical fest where we, a team of four, were supposed to build a prototype structure resistant to earthquake i.e vibrations and able to bear heavy sidewind loads. The criteria here is to have a structure of least mass with greater resistance to the applied effects. We had around three days to construct the structure and the day before the testing, we observed that the structure is swayed and could easily buckle under the load because of the defective material bought for constructing the prototype. We had to start the project from scratch to build a formidable structure in the competition. Now, either we had to finish the project from scratch or withdraw from the competition.

As a team, we decided not to quit and rebuild the structure. We worked very hard overnight and our combined efforts have taken a shape. Batch mates were awestruck to see what was mere fragments of steel was turned into a strong structure by the morning of the testing day. Interestingly, we had won the Most Innovative Design award in the competition and our joy knew no bounds.

Never Give up on the problems faced. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. We should accept the challenges as they come so that one can feel the exhilaration of victory.
