Why ABG is BIG in my life?
Aditya Birla Group, being so large and spread throughout the spectrum of products, it becomes too difficult for one to evade from it, not that one wants to. Something similar is my story. To be frank until I came in 11th standard I never knew that majority of my favourite brands like Allen solly, Van Heusen, LP etc are owned by ABG. I was just aware of the telecom network ‘Idea’.
The ABG truly and impactfully entered my life after my 12th standard when I got admission in BITS Pilani University in 2014 which drastically changed my life. A boy like me coming from a small town like Patan got the true exposure which was needed to shape my holistic personality. The educational culture of BITS is absolutely wonderful where everyone is totally free to utilize their time however they want, it teaches one to take better life decisions.
I learned a lot in my college, I explored myself, I participated in many events be it cultural or sports, I found a new side of myself which I was unaware of.
And during that wonderful journey of 4 years I did an 8 weeks long internship in Ultratech Cement, again ABG and again an amazing learning experience. I got to learn about all the things related to cement production. Since it was my first industrial exposure, I also got to learn how organizations functions and along with that I picked up some organizational etiquettes as well.
Apart from all these things, I am a big fan of ABG’s nascent clothing brand called ‘Abof’ (Aditya Birla Online Fashion). It’s truly amazing. It provides awesome quality of apparels at very affordable prices keeping style factor intact. I recommend it to each of my friends. I was truly disheartened when Abof was discontinued on 31st Dec ’17 but it bounced back again and increased my monthly clothing expenditures.
How have I made an impact?
Well, I won’t say it was much of an impact but back when I was in college, weather was getting too chilly and I got an idea to distribute blankets among poor in my hometown. I conveyed the idea to my best friend (back home) and we started contacting our school friends personally (we thought it would be more impactful as compared to WhatsApp/Fb messages) to accumulate funds for our plan. Our estimated cost was around 200(Cost)*150(Nos)=30,000 Rs. We had 36 classmates and we were able to contact 25 of them and after the rigour of pitching them the idea we managed to collect around 12,000 Rs which were too less. We were daunted by the total collection and we were sitting at my friend’s place when an idea struck my mind. I wrote a formal email to the principal of my ex-school explaining him the situation and convinced him to write a mail to all the existing senior students briefing my idea to them and giving them my contact details. Astonishingly we were able to collect around 27,000 Rs more and now we had around 40,000 Rs.
We talked to different blanket sellers, compared their rates, negotiated a bit as it was a bulk order and successfully carried out our plan.
