“It’s not who you are from the inside, but what you do that defines you”

We might’ve guessed the movie from the quote, yet never has something fictional been so immensely appropriate to reality than in this case. Before we begin, you’d think a stereotypical set of things once you hear the term “Third largest Conglomerate in India”. Of course, that can be attributed to our fixated perception when we think of certain things, yet never has the defiance been so high than it is in case of ABG, and all that for Good reasons. They’ve stood by the values and ideals on which their foundation was built upon 150 years ago, however when it came to innovating by exploring different verticals and their nuances, ABG wholeheartedly endorsed the opportunity, a glance around your surroundings would affirm that.

As reiterated by Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, the center of growth for the Aditya Birla Group is not built upon Quick sands of opportunism, rather a sustained practice of moral and value-based functioning. Which is reflected in the quality of their service. Be it Telecom, Cement or fashion, one remarkable trait that they all share is the trademark ABG stamp of Quality and trust. Growing up the familiarity with each of the aforementioned industries grew at different stages of my life. From the choice of cement my father had at the time of building our house to the trustworthy sim card I still have regardless of where I travel.

While CSR is often something considered to be a chore, with ABG it’s essential for the growth of the organization as a whole. Walking the thine line between philanthropy and Social consciousness, ABG has treated over a million patients, operates 56 schools for 46500 students, runs 5000 medical camps and 20 hospitals, just to name a few. They stand for what they believe in, and that’s why ABG is not only big in my life but also the lives of 1.22 billion people and more.

Answers lie within, How I overcame Myself

It’s 3 am, He gets up to check on his grandmother who has been paralyzed for the past 6 months. To his surprise, it’s the first time he saw her sleep peacefully, curled up to one side, without the usual appeal of her open eyes looking towards the glass of water. Not wanting to wake her up, he gently places his hands on her forehead to check and at that moment his heart skipped a beat. Her head felt cold, he slid his finger underneath her nose and the lack of wind woke his head up. He went to wake his parents who rushed with equal haste. The sight of someone close to you, lying lifeless felt aching. He was about 20, mostly matured. He joined his parents in calling all the relatives who lived afar, their tone however felt firmer than his. The next day he had to go to take classes (Use to work as a part time faculty), disregarding his feelings, he went for the job. The entire day he spent contemplating as to why was he feeling empty, not broken but empty. The Final flames engulfing his grandmother broke what he had suppressed a long time ago. An introvert kid seeking solace in the stories of his grandmother never realized how big a part of his life she became. He wondered something so mundane in terms of organic life can mean so much in terms of Humanity. Yet what came after, only made him stronger. The idea of holding onto learning and not just feelings made him a better person. Years of culmination of Awkwardness and doubt now emancipated into a rock-solid belief in his values and most importantly his ability to empathize. Yes, I am that person, and I believe everything I’ve achieved in my life since, was because I realized, the answers lied not outside but within me.
