Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
Aditya Birla Group is indeed very big in my life as I had the internship opportunity with Aditya Birla Capital which was a great chance for both my personal and professional development. I consider myself a very lucky individual having been provided with an opportunity to be a part of the Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Funds- Business Development Team. I developed a deeper understanding of the mutual funds industry, its key stakeholders, various factors affecting the industry and industry performance in the last 10 years. I was also given the opportunity to work on ABSLMF social media account and suggest new strategies to involve and engage key stakeholders/distributors.
Even in our day to day lives, Aditya Birla Group provides value for money with brands like Peter England and Idea. If anyone is looking for an uninterrupted cellular coverage especially in rural areas, I always suggest people go for Idea as I have experienced it myself. Talking about affordable fashion, Peter England is the first brand that comes to my mind which has a strong foothold in formal and casual menswear segment.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
When I completed my graduation, I was certain I wanted to make a real difference in society. After 20 years of education, I felt an obligation to share my knowledge and skills with those who needed it the most. There is no shortage of laws in our country to protect children; to make sure that they are included in a society in a positive way. There is a law against child labor, against child beggary, and an act for free education. Yet, we only have to look around to see the conditions in which children live and how they are exploited.
There are many organizations that work with underprivileged children; towards their inclusion in society. Some support academics, others introduce arts and sports while others provide employment opportunities. My work with a couple of such initiatives, working with underprivileged children led me to think about such interventions. I started with a kid who used to work in the grocery shop of the society I stay in. I convinced his mother (he did not have a father) to have faith in me and let me take responsibility for his education. I taught him for some time and got him admitted to a school in 7th class. I also volunteered in an NGO – “Rural education and welfare society (REWS)”. REWS is engaged in providing basic education, hygiene, and healthcare to the underprivileged. In today’s society, there are so many negative factors that influence young people. I want to help them understand the importance of setting goals and striving to become productive citizens.
After this past year, I believe I did just that. It was not always easy. It has taught me to be patient in certain situations, to multi-task and to give time in explaining things to kids as well. The most challenging part was managing the kids. While some of them were very enthusiastic to learn, others considered themselves just too cool to stay put. But the best part about the whole experience was the love and respect that they would express. Ultimately, I suppose I can never know how much of an impact I had, but I do know that for me it was a fundamentally eye-opening experience.
I believe if the privileged section of the society voluntarily comes forward to this noble cause, an enormous change could be brought in quality of life of underprivileged children. #NMIMSMumbai #ABGLPWooMe
