The three basic needs of human beings – food, clothing and shelter have been made feasible to the Indian individual, thanks to the Aditya Birla Group (ABG).
From aiding us to keep our packed food fresh and hygienic (Freshwrapp), helping us store meat without compromising on its quality (Gusto), to assisting us to create delectable and mouth-watering baked desserts (Delice), ABG has become the special ingredient that creates that magic in food. Since my dad is a chef, this magic has been spun in our homes from before I was born!
Do I even need to say anything about clothing? Pantaloons has been synonymous with ‘Shopping!’ In our home for more than a decade now. I have never come out of Pantaloons without a shopping bag, because of its myriad choices and availability of sizes. My dad and brother would always shop in Peter England because of their classic designs and finish. I have been a FRIENDS fan ever since I started watching TV and everyone who has seen FRIENDS knows Ralph Lauren (Where Rachel has an amazing job!). Their iconic and timeless Polo design and their attention to detail is unparalleled. And then there is Van Heusen, my go-to Shop for all my work wear. You can never go wrong with Van Heusen.
From helping us creates the walls of our home (UltraTech Cement) to putting a roof over our head (Hindalco Everlast), ABG has literally got our back for all our housing needs. My family prefers using sustainable products and ABG fulfills our wish by giving us fibres from nature (Birla Cellulose).
So don’t worry folks, whatever be your need, ABG has you covered.
My journey Towards Finding Myself
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a doctor. I loved pretending to be a doctor, listening to my friends' problems, performing a check-up, and then scribble on sheets of paper pretending it was a prescription.
As the years went by, I realized that a doctor has to do a lot more. I cried when I saw others bleed, and I had absolutely no aptitude for Chemistry. So when my results of medical entrance exams came in which I scored badly, I was not surprised. My parents asked me to pursue Computer Engineering, which was a safe option then, considering I was interested in Computers and we had better job opportunities as engineers. I loved studying about Computers as well, and not surprisingly, I was placed in the first company that came in our campus to recruit.
Working there I realized that I liked the communication aspect of my job. My most rewarding experience was mentoring a group of new employees and delegating work to them according to their individual capabilities. I was also good at making analytical decisions and liked to go beyond the scope of my work to understand how businesses work. I was also good at communication across departments and hierarchies which was commended by the Team Lead of another team that we interacted with on a daily basis. That's when it dawned on me that my calling was something else. Accepting this entirely new vocation was not easy since I had a great job and was performing well with consistently good evaluation and feedback. So I thought of undergoing some personality, aptitude and psychometric tests to help me ensure that I was in the right direction. And that’s when I knew, I had to be a Human Resource Manager. I knew that this was what I was meant to do, this is where I belong.
I decided to quit my job to study well so that I could get into a good college for an MBA-HR. Quitting a job isn’t an option when you come from a middle-class family. You are expected to leave a job only when you retire. But when I explained my aspirations to them, my parents didn’t even hesitate to say a resounding yes. They trusted my gut and passion and because of their support I had the courage to put my papers down and prepare for my entrances. The rest is history. I’m a proud student of MBA-HRM in Xavier School of Human Resource Management (XIMB-XAHR), and one step closer to fulfilling my life’s purpose.
