ULTRATECH CEMENT- 'Build beautiful'
Aditya Birla Group is the third largest conglomerate in India only behind TATA Group and Reliance Industries Limited having its presence across various sectors ranging from clothing, textile, metal, cement, commodities and what not. They have impacted the lives of millions and still continue to do so through their consistent innovations and efforts. Ultratech cement is one of its subsidiaries which I can relate the most with. UltraTech has always been involved in many social endeavors to bring in inclusive growth and the main body responsible for this task is Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development. Since I am a person who is very much involved with social works, I resonate with Ultratech a lot.
Ultratech has pulled up many people from below poverty line and the work I did was mostly associated with underprivileged people so I came across many such undertakings of Ultratech. Ultratech’s CSR activities are concentrated in 407 villages, across the country. I remember that when we were building our house, the only cement we relied upon was of Ultratech’s without giving a single thought about any other competitor. That is the trust Ultratech has infused in us.
Housing is the basic necessity of a household and Ultratech has provided me and many more like me the opportunity to build a dream house which will hold up for generations and keep on impacting the lives of my offsprings. For me Ultratech is not just a brand, it is a medium to achieve my dreams.
STRUGGLE, LEARN AND CONQUER
Coming from a consulting background, I had my experience in Deloitte US India for 2 years as a Risk Analyst. The journey has always been full of learning curves and varied experiences. I was a part of Vulnerability Management Services, being the team lead of Bangalore office. I was leading a team of four resources, two of them being new to the firm. I and Abhishek being the oldest resources, we always had to take upon the responsibility of our team, as days went, we had a good grasp over the project and we are immensely recognized by the offshore team. But soon, there was this devastating news struck our team, that Abhishek has been diagnosed with cancer. It was a moment which has really scared me off, something which I really took an ample amount of time to believe in and getting used to it. Things went off control as we were nearing the delivery dates and Abhishek wasn’t with us anymore, as he had already left for his further medical treatments. The pressure was quite high and I being the senior most resource, I had to take sole responsibility of my team, and with Abhishek leaving, we needed more resources to cope up with the work as the delivery had to be done within a span of next 5 weeks. There was this time when I thought I cannot take up this responsibility and I shared the same to my manager asking him if I am the correct person to lead a team which would represent Deloitte’s global business. But he always showed faith in me, I was asked to interview two guys for project specific requirements, and I did it with utmost sincerity. I took out immense time and effort to bring them on similar lines and with days passing by, the performance curve kept on increasing and thus at end of the project I was immensely appreciated by the client and also awarded with the “Client Appreciation Award”, one of the highest achievements in Deloitte. So the learning I had was quite prominent that if we are into a problem or any challenge, escaping or ignoring it is never the option, the best and foremost way to tackle up a situation is step your own feet into the mud, struggle, learn, experience and conquer. Struggle and challenges are the hurdles which help us know what we are capable of and what we actually deserve.
