Part A- ABG is big in my Life
The product offerings of Aditya Birla have impacted, and they continue to impact my daily life in a big way. Some of the ways how they acted a problem solver are below.
Ultra-Tech cement is known for its quality and durability. The brand awareness is so high in our area and it is the most trusted cement brand. Five years ago, we were constructing a home in our ancestral land. We even stopped the construction activities for two days as the supply of Ultra-tech cement was delayed. It is also seen as a status symbol in our area if we had constructed our house ultra-tech cement.
When it comes to shirts and trousers, brands such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, and Peter England. I normally purchase my clothes twice/ thrice in a year and I find the innovations in stitching style of brand van Heusen commendable. Every time, there will some variety or style in the trouser offering which makes Van Heusen trousers my first preference in shopping. The brand Louis Philippe give me immense confidence and it is always my first choice when choosing my apparels for the interview. Peter England shirts and trousers are robust and durable, and this makes it my choice of apparels on regular use. These varied brand offerings from the same house -Aditya Birla is unique and I couldn’t find any such comparable value offering from other brands.
The freshwrapp aluminium foil has found a very special place in my home kitchen. For many years, we use the foil to cook a variety of foods and preserve their freshness. We don’t have an oven, but we normally use the foil on the base plate on Tawas for baking pizzas on a regular stove. It has always been our first choice when it comes to packing food for travels. Also, its unconventional value is mainly realized in using it as a decorative item for gifts and room decors for various parties and functions.
Part B- Overcoming Challenges to achieve my Ambitions
When I joined BPCL, I knew only two languages viz. English and Tamil. My knowledge to comprehend Hindi was very limited even though I learned Hindi till my High School Education. In the early days of Induction training, I found it difficult as the common language of communication among peers was Hindi. I tried to learn Hindi with the help of various books and the results are not fruitful. My Hindi education till my high school, instead of aiding in better understanding, led me to believe that learning a language by the way of books will never help and I was searching for other ways to learn the language.
After a few months, I was posted to the city of Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. The regional language is Telugu, and this further worsened my situation as I neither knew Telugu nor Hindi. My day to day interactions is with the dealers and the vendors, many of whom knew only Telugu. My first impression was I could manage with English and getting the help of others in translating to Telugu. Later I realized that this won’t be a feasible solution in the long term.
Suddenly I felt I am under immense pressure to learn the language as without learning the local language -Telugu it was difficult to achieve my sales targets and other goals. I was determined to overcome this challenge of learning a new language. Then I formulated a strategy of learning Telugu during my work-time itself by interacting more with vendors and dealers who were affluent in both Telugu and English. This strategy worked and within a week, I learned some few basic phrases in Telugu which were enough for getting my job done. This gave me the confidence that I can learn a new language if I can change my attitude. Then I started watching Telugu movies and conversed more with people in Telugu and in 3 months I can say that I can communicate verbally in perfect Telugu. Later I applied this same strategy and learned Hindi in the next year.
