Shubhit Gulati

You simply cannot imagine a life without something that is as essential as air. You know it’s always there around you, you know your life depends on it, yet it just doesn’t seek unnecessary attention. It’s just there for you in your time of need.

All the things mentioned above are exactly what the Aditya Birla Group has delivered in its decades of existence. Ever since its humble beginnings with Grasim Industries, Aditya Birla Group has grown leaps and bounds. Reaching 34 countries and employing 120,000 individuals from 42 different nationalities, is a clear indication of the direction Aditya Birla Group wants to take future businesses towards. An inclusive environment, where everyone from every strata of the world can play a role in the betterment of society.

When it comes to the Aditya Birla Group, I could go on and say that they’re the number 1 ranked in Aluminium Rolling, Viscose Staple Fibre, Carbon Black globally. And one can even make the argument that especially in India they’re at the top of the leaderboard in Fashion, Mobile Telephony, Grey Cement, White Cement & Concrete. However, to a common man market share, leaderboard ranks and turnovers are just numbers. Aditya Birla Group touches the lives of millions of families by being with them throughout their days, weeks, months and years.

Everyday an individual might wake up in their night suit from Pantaloons, check their phone and receive a ‘good morning’ text from their loved ones over Vodafone or Idea Cellular. They get ready for work and wear their lucky Peter England shirt for office. Pack their lunch in some Freshwrapp. Go to work, get back home and finally slip into some good old party wear from Forever 21 or Van Heusen.

It’s the simple things in life that make a company memorable. And in a closely knit world like today, Aditya Birla Group is making a BIG impact by doing the little things. Being there for us every which way. Being like the air we breathe.

CHALLENGE

Being a 20+ year old in a city that offers immense opportunities is difficult. You’re always stuck between the practical and rational side of your brain, and the creative and free flowing side. At the age of 20, when you’re just stepping foot into the real world, every action of yours creates a ripple. A ripple that may change the way your life goes.

I, too, faced a similar ripple generating challenge throughout my days as a 20 plus year old student who was just about to graduate. I had been a science student all my life, always listening to what others had to say. Someone who fit perfectly into the status quo. Studying in an off campus college of the University of Delhi, I was happy in the niche stream of Science Honors, while everybody else was becoming an engineer. I knew I was stuck in a theoretical field where most of the work is done behind desks and in front of computer screens. But I knew then and there that this wasn’t what I was meant for. After being a part of the Organising Team of Cultural Festivals and the Theatre Society for some years, it really makes you think if a desk job would be the right fit for you. Or if you would be the right fit for it!

So as and when I graduated, I was at that part of the road, which forked into two. One side took me to a course in computer science yet again, and another to mass media. After weeks of deliberating and discussions, I took the road not taken and ventured into the creative world of Advertising, Media Relations, Branding and Marketing! A decision that was not appreciated by many, but with the faith I had in my own abilities and the support of my loved ones, I made it through.

As of this day, not only do I have knowledge of the field of Science AND Arts, I’m pursuing Management which really rounds it all up when it comes to exploring all possibilities and choosing what is right for you. Sometimes, it takes you a few years to find your niche. To find what challenges you, yet intrigues you. What drives you to better yourself and better others around you. So find what challenges you and face it with all your heart.
