Having a business idea and gathering the courage to start it up made me an inch closer to my long term ambition of being an entrepreneur. The entire demeanor the startup carries is enthralling to the outside world but the intricacies woven around the execution of it are unimaginable. Fresh out of college, I along with my friend took this bold step to make a difference in the lives of people. Our business idea revolved around providing personalized handmade gifting solutions to the customers. We had a great start with word of mouth publicity helping us land considerable orders to keep us busy. Also, as a part of our expansion plan corporates were our major target areas. We started with contacting corporate startups via email and cold calling. With little to no response, sooner we realized that things are not as simple as they seem. Failing to get the response we expected, we felt dejected. Pouncing upon we did make changes to our approach towards our customers only to realize that it is not just a business idea that is important for a startup, it also requires proper execution strategies. We felt short of the right skills required to negotiate. Failing to make ends meet we decided to shut shop. I felt dejected. But being a warrior that I have always been, giving up was not an option. I decided to pursue formal education and chose to go for MBA from a top B-school to learn the tricks of the trade. Getting into a top B-school in India is a daunting task. Along with my strenuous job at a leading MNC, I started squeezing time to study whenever I could. But my performance in the exam wasn’t good enough to get me into a top B-school. Failures had become a part of my everyday life. There were times of despair, but they only made me stronger. I chose to reattempt the exam the following year. Studied with grit and determination, I ended up being amongst the top 1 percentilers in country’s one of the most reputed management entrance exams. I could see my dream coming true. Owing to my dedication and never give up attitude I’m proud to be at one of the best institutes for management education, SCMHRD. Constantly working towards my goal since then I ascertain a fact that the ability to reach our goals stop at the time when we stop believing in ourselves.
