The golden rule I can think of is the fact that you must follow your passion and something close to your heart.
- Kumar Mangalam Birla
It is difficult to find people who have never been through challenges in life and were still successful. These challenges are those real enemies that bring the real 'you' outside to the world. They often come with unpacked gifts once you conquer them.
I have completed my schooling from a very small town in Maharashtra. For further studies, I traveled to Mumbai; the city which never sleeps. The fast pace of the city amazed me. The initial few months, it was difficult for me to get adjusted with the place. Traveling in the locals became a forced add-on to my life. I have completed my bachelors in commerce from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. I also took tuitions for a few subjects that were new to me. My day started at 7 in the morning and ended at 9 in the evening. There were times my breakfast would be just two 'vada pavs' because who has got the time right. But eventually, my passion to live all by myself is what got me stuck at this place. In no time, I was able to match up to the super-fast-express-pace of life in Mumbai. People come to Mumbai with aspirations and so did I. But, my dreams get even more real when I saw how busy people are in running after their ambitions. This is why it's called the "city of dreams," because it compels you to touch the sky rather than sit and imagine how it would feel like to embrace it. Also, coming from a middle-class family, money was always a constraint. Though there wasn’t much I could do about it, having gone through some of the tough phases due to the crunch, it instilled the greed to learn as much as I could so that it can be used to alleviate some issues in the future. When India is sleeping, "Bombay" is wide awake and this is one of the many reasons why I love this place. One of my favorite pastimes was to sit by the beachside or the Marine Drive and admire the serene beauty, the fact that I was able to do this at 4 am in the morning is what makes life unbelievably beautiful in this city.
How big is ABG in life?
If there is any conglomerate in India that can proudly claim to have seen all the major depressions, recessions, and has successfully managed to stand the test of time, it is the Aditya Birla Group (ABG). Having started with a tiny cotton trading business way back in 1857, the kind of progress it has made is phenomenal on many levels.
I still remember the day, it was my Junior School Graduation day and the dress code was formal wear. My dad took me to Planet Fashion in Mumbai, which was one of the finest Multi-brand stores in the city back then. And from that day, I was in love with Allen Solly, Louis Phillipe all these brands have now become my Go-To brands. ABG as a group isn’t just reflecting on individuals in their personal lives but also on businesses across multiple domains. The reception of ABG’s products is so huge that I cannot even think that there would be a day when we don’t get touched upon by them. My mom uses Freshwrap to keep food in my lunchbox, although there is a gazillion number of aluminum foils in the market, the trust is on it. The bond, the trust, the connect, the woo factors, all these comprise together to make ABG the brand it is today. After giving a stunning performance in the consumer durables, the company is now showcasing its strengths in the financial sector as well with ABG Sun Life Mutual Funds and Capital. This just goes to show how ABG has grown from a Textile business into a Mammoth Conglomerate.
