‘Taking India to the World’, a tagline so simple yet exemplifies the perfect image of The Aditya Birla Group. It’s not an exaggeration to say they have touched our lives in one way or another. But, while they have touched almost every sector like, telecommunication through Idea or Cement Industry through their own home grown brand, for me they have brought me a wide variety of choices to my only hobby of buying clothes. Call it girly, but ‘Clothes Maketh a Man’ and for me the most renowned group brought me a wide variety of them. For me, Aditya Birla Group is a brand to show-off. With my first drawn salary, I might just treat myself to a new suit rather than a fancy dinner and I know where I would just buy them. Had it not been for Aditya Birla most brands like Forever 21, Allen Solly, Peter England or Pantaloons might not have emerged in the Indian Market or have become an exclusive brand for the rich. They made it accessible at affordable prices to us. We get the latest fashion easily accessible albeit a bit costly. My own wardrobe is a mix of a couple of suits, trousers and tees that are so comfortable to the touch and wants to be worn to showcase to the world that’s me in different forms. Aditya Birla has always envisioned their products to be accessible to everyone. Be it rich or poor, old or young. For my generation, the group brought us a readily accessible range of products from good insurance plans to cheap telecommunication. The group is for everyone but it can only do so when everyone becomes a part of the group in one way or another.
Challenges have always been a part of our lives. Most people just shave it off as being unlucky but unlucky the many a few like us see it as a criticism or lesson from life to improve ourselves. As students , getting low marks meant we were not being productive or getting hurt when learning something meant we were not doing it right. My own challenges came from my own mediocrity but big dreams. Despite being an average student, I dreamt of being a successful business man with a comfortable lifestyle. It all came down to either a good degree or a golden spoon, none which were in my range. Days went by dreaming about being an IITian but dreams shatter and so did mine. Being a yet another average engineer from a non-IIT background, it seemed like my dreams were dreams subjected to mediocrity. But, I still dreamt of my own business and learning the ropes. I found my goal in a management schools that could break my curse but first I needed to break my chain of mediocrity. Being in a top class B-school, I have reached my milestone. It might be up to me to start my own business, but atleast I can see a silver lining. It might seem a clichéd story but not all stories are perfect and not only stories can have a spiciness of a movie. My own failures might seem like a joke but for me they were my humble beginnings, the ones to be remembered.
