Challenges are a part of everyone’s life, and like failures they can also be called as the
stepping stones to success. However, we achieve success not when we attain our goal but
every time we overcome these challenges.
Right from my childhood, my grandmother has been an integral part of my upbringing as
well as my education. She always wanted me to excel in everything I did, and would put
considerable efforts to ensure that I do so. However, with aging and the onset of amnesia, she
lost touch with the world. As the years went by her condition kept deteriorating. Living in a
small house there was not much space to find solace. The tension in the house coupled with
growing stress of studying for my engineering entrance tests and then the 4 year course was
very challenging. Some days were good; some were bad; however I did cruise through them
due to the immense support of my parents. The circumstances in the house were a challenge
to me, however, my goal was set in my mind and I wanted to achieve it, for myself, for my
parents, for my grandmother. I started spending considerable time in the library instead,
trying to ward my mind off the problems at home, which helped a lot.
I am yet deeply disheartened that even though I managed to attain a degree for myself, I
could not share those moments with the one person who was responsible in creating the drive
for excellence in me.
