Part A
“InsideIIM - ABG WooMe competition launch” was the mail notification on my phone and the question was to write about an impact the group had in your life. This triggered a chain of thoughts in me to figure out the same.
Starting with the phone in which the notification popped up - the cover glass: Hindalco manufactures aluminium that is used for the same. From foils used for wrapping meals and snacks to huge metal parts in trains, consumer durables and construction Hindalco plays a significant role in many walks of our life. Grasim industries is the world’s 4th largest maker of insulators. In construction Ultra tech cements is well known but just that won’t suffice – 1 lakh metric tons of cement has gone into Bandra-Worli sea link. Then the usual Pantaloons that hosts a variety of fashion brands like Vanheusen, AllenSolly, PeterEngland, LouisPhillippe etc which help us look hip and savvy according to the event attended. Birla carbon makes travel on roads safer through the carbon nano particles on tires. The retail group More has enabled neighbourhoods with easier and cheaper access to groceries. The Vodafone idea network brings families closer and captures memories.
So how does all this impact me? Well the impact is so much that it’s taken for granted. It hits us in tiny ways and giant waves on numerous occasions, but we realise and appreciate it only when we start to jot it down for a competition or when we are thankful to the safe and sound environment we are gifted with.
Part B
There should be a burning desire to win post the setting of a valuable and achievable goal. It is the ability to envision the goal and the perks of achieving it that drive us to overcome the difficulties we face in the journey.
I was preparing for CAT while working and there was a corporate tournament of caroms that came up. I wanted to qualify for the tournament and win the same while not compromising my work and preparation schedule. Lack of time and energy was the by default hurdle. I planned my time to accommodate all 3 and had set my priorities right. Practice makes a man perfect but not any man. He should have the right attitude towards achieving the goal too. I couldn’t stick to the schedule prepared by me strictly which lead to compromises based on the priority. My mock test scores fell, and I had to readjust the prepared schedule to cope with the same. Not getting dejected with the results thinking all the efforts were in vain took me nowhere. Action and attitude are what matter the most. In the end the efforts bore fruit and I had successfully cleared the exam with a decent percentile, won the third place (not the first I know) and managed to work all the same.
The extent of a problem that bothers us is only to the extent we allow it to be so. Thus planned, consistent and relevant action towards a clearly defined goal was how I had overcome the challenges in my life.
