PART A

Aditya Birla group has been in existence since the 1800’s. Grasim Industries Ltd, the flagship Birla group was incorporated shortly after independence. This firm manufactured textiles and imported raw materials. Eventually over the years, it entered the businesses of copper, insurance, telecommunications, retail and software services. Now the group is doing business in various sectors namely, non-ferrous metals, cement, textiles, chemicals, agri-business, carbon black, mining, wind power, insulators, telecommunications, financial services, retail and trading solutions. The group owns one of the top three telecom companies in India, the nation’s largest cement manufacturer and one of its top retailers.

Aditya Birla group has been a part of my life in many ways throughout my life. Being a skinny girl, I always had trouble finding the right sized clothes for me, until I came across forever 21. It gave me a perfect blend of right fit and style. It has got me covered for any events, may it be a formal function or a casual day out. Other than this, being a civil engineer, Ultratech cement has had a significant contribution to my work life. It’s definitely an engineer’s choice. The presence of this in my work life was massive.  I’ve worked in the construction sector and Ultratech Cement has been a part of it throughout. Other brands like Pantaloons, Peter England, Allen Solly have also extensively been a part of our lives giving us very good and a different variety of options on special occasions.

I would like to conclude by saying that the Aditya Birla Group is in some way or the other a part of all our lives.

PART B

MBA was always a far-fetched dream. Being an engineer and overcoming the “all engineers end up doing an MBA” notion was a challenge. after graduating I was still contemplating whether to actually pursue it or not. Under the societal pressure, I joined work. I enjoyed working as a civil engineer, it wasn’t something I disliked so I went on to do the job for several months. But it was high time I made a decision. I had to decide if I really wanted to pursue MBA or was I okay being in the field that I am. After a lot of thought process and guidance from various people, I finally decided to go forward with MBA. But it wasn’t just as easy as it sounds. Quitting my job was another big leap of faith that I had to take. There was no surety that I would actually clear the exams and get into a good college. Nevertheless, since I had made the decision, I chose to stick by it. I gave my 100% and got into GIM. Today when I look back, I don’t regret any of it. I’m glad things worked out the way they did and I finally ended up in a place that I enjoy so very much.
