We all know that there is not shortcut to success. We are bound to experience situations in life which can come in the form of ups and downs. We have to strive and work hard in order to overcome the hurdles and the difficulties that life throws at us.
Today I write poetry and articles. Circumstances were not always the same. I was once just a small town girl who dreamed of wonderful things. I was a girl who would spend the daytime day dreaming of a different life. I lived in a fantasy world and I absolutely loved reading such books. In the society I lived in, I wasn’t allowed to go out and play with the kids my age. I would sit in the window of my room and watch them, smile at the way they fought and wave back when they noticed me. I had a hunger for reading stories like none other. My father was a professor in a college and he would get me, a 4th standard student classics and biographies to read. In one of the book I read about how Indira Gandhi used to write in her journal every day and I started doing the same. I wrote about them. I versed about the beauty of the nature whilst sitting under the guava tree in the backyard of our house. I loved to write, yes! But I was incredibly terrible at it. I could express my thoughts but my vocabulary and grammar was terrible. I studied at a small town English medium school where anyone hardly spoke English but I had a unique affinity towards the language. My parents realized that I needed better education and sent me to Nashik. I changed my school through series of hardships, studies and efforts and finally I was one of the 100 students who was selected to join the 2 seat vacancies at Symbiosis School in Nashik. I was instantly disheartened that I couldn’t speak and converse like the other students in my class. I was struggling and I felt lost. It was the third class of my first day that I fell in love. The school has a beautiful and huge library with walls full of books. We had a limit of 2 book subscription per week but the library Miss took a liking to me and used to lend me more. I would spend hours and hours reading 7 to 8 books a week just to improve my language and speak like others. And the efforts were fruitful. Today I write poetry and articles. I have published my poems in two anthologies and I working on my novel too. It’s the fire and the hunger for being better me that helped me overcome one of the hardest stage in my life.
After graduating Mechanical Engineering at the top of my class, I worked in a manufacturing start-up. During work hours, From helping to guiding workers, helping in manual labor to learn from the helpers, to working under the guidance of senior managers I learnt the value of not taking things for granted. I started preparing for entrances during any leisure time and even utilized time I use to get while commuting, thus finally securing a good MBA college in Mumbai.
They told me that the small town girl would just get lost in this uptown world. But every day I am learning and being a better version of me and that’s my ambition!
