It is indeed true that the ABG’s presence in India is ubiquitous and it is quite obvious that since India’s independence, it has become difficult to ignore this multi-brand global conglomerate. Over the years, the group has penetrated almost all markets and has carved a niche for themselves in the world of business and industries. What started as a small cotton trading business in Pilani back in the 19th century has now turned into a global venture with an annual turnover of $44.3 billion which includes revenues from countries in America, Africa and Asia.

Now while trying to understand their steady growth and increasing global presence, it is important to note their impact on individual lives. Growing up in a small town in Kerala, I have heard the name Birla come up in a million conversations about money and business. For a company that was not even remotely close to my geographic or social setting, to have featured in conversations which happened in the comfort of my home in Kerala itself is a huge testimony to their popularity and unfailing presence.

Personally, I think the most I have engaged with the AB Group is through their fashion and retail brands. I have always owned at least one piece of garment from Pantaloons, People, Allen Solly and Forever 21 and Ralph Lauren, Van Heusen and Louis Philippe are my obvious choices while shopping for the men in my life. As popular and prevailing as their fashion brands are their telecom services. I have used as well as known many who used/have been using Vodafone for years. In fact, while mentioning Vodafone and Idea one can’t help but recall their catchy, funny advertisements.
