1) Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?

Food, clothing and shelter are the three basic needs of humans, now the internet has also been added to that list, and Aditya Birla Group (ABG) massively contributes to all four areas and many more. Right from the time I wake up until I go to bed, I am using ABGs products throughout the day. Firstly, the house I live in has been made by using UltraTech cement, the clothes I wear are from Allen Solly, Louis Philippe or Skult, the cellular and data services I use are provided to me by Vodafone Idea Ltd. The lunch I take to college is wrapped by ABGs Freshwrapp, the soft drinks I consume are provided to me by aluminium cans made by Novelis. ABG has been an integral part of my life.

Besides products, ABG has added invaluable learnings to my life. In my previous organization, I got an opportunity to work with Hindalco on an NPS study for its copper wire rod and copper cathode which was an enriching experience.

Moving on to transportation, having lived in Bandra my entire life, the biggest gift ABG has contributed to is the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the iconic structure which makes all Mumbaikars proud.  Moreover, the tyres used in our cars have carbon black additives in it, and also ABG caters to the copper needs of the Indian railways.

Another important factor is sustainability, ABG has been a responsible user of resources that strives to fulfil its need by reducing reliance on exhaustive sources of energy and preserving the environment.

Not only ABG contributes to the fortunate population but also to the less fortunate population through various CSR activities. ABG is continuously striving to develop less fortunate people who make up for a large share of India’s population and not only suffice their need but also make them able to be self-sufficient.

ABG is big in my life because it focuses on the overall development of individuals on a personal level, societal level and national level.

2) How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?

Different challenges require different solutions, there is no one size fits all approach to challenges. However, over the years I have learnt a few lessons on how to approach challenges and overcome the same.

My first lesson is that one should always treat challenges like opportunities and face them with courage. A common mistake we tend to make is that we panic whenever a new challenge is thrown at us, but what we fail to recognize is that challenges are opportunities, opportunity to grow, to learn, to create value, to level up and to win.

My second lesson is to never give up. As clichéd as it may sound, but this mind-set is what drives me to overcome my challenges. As soon as I face a challenge, my first act is to throw “giving up” out of the window. When I do this, my first question always changes from “will I be able to solve this?” to “how do I solve this?”. This positive drive is what helps me overcome self-doubt and focus on the problem.

My third lesson is to make the most of that beautiful organ we all have between our ears, the mind. 90% of the times, I find a solution to my problems when I just critically think about them and divide them into three areas: what I want (destination), what I have (origin) and how do I bridge the gap (journey). The first area, destination is of utmost importance, because when we keep the end goal in mind, we have a broader vision on how to optimally frame the journey to reach our destination.

For the remaining 10% of the times, I remember my fourth and final lesson, to consult others, to share my problem and to ask for their advice. It is very important to understand that there is no one way to solve a problem, there might be 146 other ways. But the only way one can know about the others and select the best is if one is not rigid, egoistic and is open to other’s opinions.

Overcoming challenges is great, if it would have been easy, everyone would do it, it is the difficulty that makes it great.
