My paternal grandfather is an ex-employee of the Birla group. He was the right hand to the CEO at that time (L N Birla). He greatly admired Ghanshyam Das and his principles and especially his business acumen. My ‘nanaji’ has tried to imbibe some of their values into our lives. GD Birla in a letter to Aditya Birla when he had gone abroad to study had advised him to eat vegetarian food, never to drink or smoke, cultivate good habits and most importantly to live a humble life. My nanaji has also been preparing us to ensure we follow a similar set of principles. He tried to imbibe values in us which are similar to those that the Birla’s believe in which are integrity, passion, commitment, seamlessness, and speed. Our family also believes that it is integrity that binds all our values together and passion makes our life meaningful. I have grown up listening to stories of how healthy the office environment was and how the Birla’s treated their employees as family. It was this quality which eventually led them to obtain the AON Best employer award in 2018. The Birla’s were known to be workaholics and were very punctual. This is a testament to the empire they have been successful in building today. Even though all this was of the LN Birla side of the business, I am sure it is true for all factions of Birla because the Birla’s are one big family and they are all bound by the same set of principles. Aditya Birla group is big in my life because of the congruence in our values and principles. Since my grandfather’s career began from here it will be the start of a legacy if I do too.

In 2015, when I commenced my college journey, I started facing slight anxiety issues which only started increasing gradually with time.

Anxiety can feel as huge as the big, blue sea, but remember that the sea is made up of smaller waves.

You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.

As a result, I started overeating and could not even sleep the night before the examinations due to tremendous performance pressure and panic attacks. This, in turn, started hampering my academic performance because I gave most tests without adequate sleep. This went on for two years. At the beginning of my final year of college, I decided that this cannot continue any longer, and constructive action was required. I started speaking up about my problems and confiding in my mom and best friend. I realized that people who loved me wanted to help me get out of this terrible mess.  I enrolled myself for a yoga class and started going for those five days a week. Gradually, I saw changes in myself with respect to handling several things simultaneously. In the third year of my college, I was very active in co-curricular activities and took up positions of responsibility. My sense of responsibility was appreciated, and I was made in charge of organizing an entire fest. I performed well in my final exams also. I managed to overcome one of my biggest personal battles which are anxiety by taking it head on and not running away from it.
