Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?

“Food and Shelter are the basic necessities of life.” This is what was taught to us in school two decades ago. With changing times, this statement needs to be modified. In the 21st century, some say that bandwidth is as basic a need as Roti, Kapda aur Makaan. Aditya Birla Group is one of the biggest Indian groups that represent India on the global level and provide products and services in all of these spheres. Aditya Birla Group has its presence in 35 Countries and a number of brands come under the umbrella of this group. Some of the sectors that the group deals in are viscose staple fiber, metals, cement, branded apparel, carbon black, chemicals, fertilizers, insulators, financial services, telecom, BPO and IT services.

Whether it be my house which was constructed using UltraTech Cement, or getting my tiffin packed in Freshwrapp by my mother’s loving hands, or my first ever personal SIM card being from Vodafone, Aditya Birla Group has been a part of my life from the very beginning. However, the business line which has impacted me the most is retail fashion. When I started my first job at JP Morgan Chase and was faced with the daunting task of purchasing formal wear for the first time, Allen Solly and Van Heusen were the two brands which came to my rescue. These are two of the very few brands in India which provide women with good quality and comfortable formal clothing and accessories. The comfort and style these gave me helped boost my self-confidence greatly and perform better. During my college days, I supplemented my wardrobe with more fashionable options from brands like People, Pantaloons and Forever 21. All these brands cater to almost the entire section of society with a flexible price band and assured quality.

Aditya Birla Group products have always been my first choice as they offer best in quality with tremendous variety at reasonable prices for every occasion.

How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far-

My father had to face frequent transfers and was posted in several rural locations in Karnataka throughout my childhood. To be close to him, my mother, sister and I moved to Bangalore from Delhi when I was young. Moving to a completely new city where we had no relatives or friends and did not know the local language was extremely challenging. My mother was also working and I found myself having to deal with schoolwork and other activities with little to no guidance. My father would come home once or twice a month and be caught up in various necessary household activities such as paying bills, etc.  This taught me to be independent and self-reliant from the very beginning. I learnt household skills, and simple personal chores. I learnt how to manage my own time and be responsible without relying on my parents. This experience also taught me how to adjust and adapt to a new environment. I learnt the necessary social skills required to make new friends and approach people without hesitation.

The next big challenge I faced in my life was during campus placements in my graduation. I maintained consistent good grades throughout my engineering to make sure that I would clear the necessary cut offs required. I also honed my coding skills for the written round and interviews extensively. Finally, I worked on making my profile stand out so that I would be selected for an interview by completing projects in machine learning and data analytics. All went well and I was able to land my dream job at JP Morgan Chase.

As a data analyst in the Model Validation team, I was responsible for Credit Card business models performance and validation reports. While I performed well ensuring 0% data loss and also received an award for my efforts, I was still not satisfied. I wanted to be in a more client facing role and drive more business decisions. Therefore, I wanted to gain the skills and acquire the knowledge so that I can be a part of the decision-making team for which I started preparing for my MBA. But working full time and studying for one of the most competitive exams in India wasn’t easy, which resulted in me missing the mark in CAT 2017. In my next attempt, I prioritized my time effectively, learnt from my mistakes and was able to secure admission at Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur.

I know there will be a lot more challenges in life, and I am eagerly waiting to face them with the same zeal and determination as before.
