“Hey, check your mailbox. Right now!” exclaimed my client partner as I hysterically fumbled to log in and run through my mails. My hands shivering and my heart beating faster, fear and anticipation loomed over me.

I had joined my organisation two months back, straight out of college. Nothing better than a recruitment consultancy to start a career, in Human Resource Management, with. After two weeks of rigorous training, I was assigned to a client partner and assisted end to end recruitment (sourcing, screening, interviewing, scheduling, negotiating, etc.) for some major players in the Banking and Financial Services Industry. I was off to a great start but things started taking a turn for worse. I had three candidate selections in the last month and but all the them backed out. I was disappointed and hopeless. My performance was below average. I started questioning my abilities and potential and felt like I was unfit for the role in particular and for HR as a profession in general. My motivation and confidence took a hit and I wanted to give up but I decided to give it one more shot. I unlearned, learned, relearned and started from scratch.

Aditya Birla Finance Ltd. and Aditya Birla Housing Finance were two major clients handled by my client partner. They had recently tied up with my organisation on probationary basis and had some staffing needs which, subject to satisfactory closures, would make this contract permanent. Some initial, entry level mandates were assigned and I asked my manager if I could source for those roles and close them. This was the chance to prove my mettle and bounce back harder and better. I researched about the company’s profile, its senior management and their profile, its culture, its policies, its staffing needs and gained in-depth understanding of its expectations from its vendors and employees. I was committed to acquire the best talents from the industry for the openings that would add value to the company. I worked day in and day out to source the most competent people and provide the most relevant pool of candidates to the company for further consideration.

I could finally access my mails. I opened the mailbox and screamed with joy, I couldn’t believe it. I had six mails from Aditya Birla Finance Ltd. which meant 6 candidates of mine were selected out of the 10 who applied. I did my job and I did it well. My manager and client partner were really happy and proud.

Eventually, 5 out of those 6 candidates took up the offer and joined the company. Aditya Birla Finance not only became a permanent client, but also the biggest in terms of staffing requirements and revenue generation for the organisation. I was also awarded as the star employee of the month for three consecutive months and I continued to lead the list of best performing recruitment consultants.

Aditya Birla played an immensely crucial role in my life – professionally and personally. It was a blessing in disguise which not only gave me the much coveted professional recognition but also taught me some integral values of life. I learned to keep going when the time gets tough, to not give up and believe in myself and my capabilities, to live in the present and make the best out of it, that I can achieve whatever I set my heart to and their motto itself “inspired every day.”
