After going through rounds of interview, I landed my first job. With shine in my eyes I started my first day. I remembered all the sacrifices my parents had made to enroll me in a convent school and a prestigious college thereafter. Money was hard-earned. They never splurged on themselves rather wanted my brother and I to be comfortable. On the last day of the month, I received my first salary. I was ecstatic. All the things I could buy now! I went to the nearest mall. First stop was Peter England. I bought a pair of trousers and a shirt for my father and a wallet for my brother. Second stop Allen Solly, bought a navy-blue bag that I had seen my mother eyeing. I remember the glimpse of happiness in their eyes when they opened their presents. Saying I love you and Thank you are not the norm in Indian families. That day the eyes did all the talking. My parents were happy that I was finally being financially independent. Don’t worry, I got the ‘Don’t spend so much, Save’ lecture too. My brother teased me that he expected many more gifts to come. Cut to three years, I joined NMIMS Bangalore. I had to dress up in formals for the first time. Any guesses where did I got to? Yes, a trip to Allen Solly once again.
