ADITYA BIRLA GROUP – A NAME FOR THE AGES
Have we ever wondered how much of the products we use or services we consume, are being made or produced by the famous company or brand, Aditya Birla Group. Such is the grandeur of the company and proclivity of its reach to most geographical locations around various parts of the world.
So what makes the company different from its competitors, and how has it earned the fame and make it an integral part of our lives? If we delve deeper into this prospect, we will find that over the period of time, it has garnered the brand recognition and making strides into various domains, and in doing so, also made alterations keeping in mind the technological up gradations so that they don’t fall behind in their own shell.
It all started with their founder Mr. Seth Shiv Narayan Birla starting the operations back in 1857 as a small cotton trading company in Pilani, Rajasthan, and from thereon the company grew in leaps and bounds, with Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, taking over the company into cement and chemical industry in the early nineteenth century and forming Grasim Industries Limited. Then Aditya Vikram took the throne and setup 19 companies outside India in 1969. He was a major contributor to the growth of the company, with Kumar Mangalam taking forward from there and clubbing all the companies under the umbrella of Aditya Birla Group in 1996. Many mergers and demergers have ensued since then ( Grasim taking cement firm Ultra Tech Limited, Aluminium rolling firm Hindalco India Limited acquiring Atlanta’s Novelis etc).
Aditya Birla Group has really made a big place for itself in the marketplace with its revenues increasing steadily to $40 billion presently, and also many of its subsidiaries in Fortune 500 companies. Some of its big product categories are Grasim, Idea Cellular, Aditya Birla Capital, Peter England Fashions and Retail, Ultra Tech Cement, Birla Sun Life Insurance etc.
So, we can easily say that the influence of the company is immense and perverse in our lives from the road we travel, clothes we wear, house we live in, telecommunication, to insurance and financial decisions we take. We can only adore the grandeur of this company and inculcate the same perseverance in our lives on any and every life decisions we make. This shows how a company can shape the lives of people that it attracts and moulds it to the best possible manner so that people adore it not only through physical presence but also the intangible benefits it provides. It inherently makes people realize that products or services is not only about buying or selling, but also the customer value that it earns and how it can convert this value into an image in the minds of consumers or customers so that it transforms into a brand. This is what really matters to a company and we can easily say that Aditya Birla Group satisfies all the above mentioned things and that is why it is popular among people now and why it will take this forward for years to come…
We know that, any company, if it has to be successful in the current era has to have a strong base laid on the skills, talent and potential source of human resource management, which helps the company grow its stature in the competitive world we witness today. One such company is the famous Aditya Birla Group, which invests heavily in the well being and tap overall potential of its employees through giving the necessary leverage for them to prosper in such scenarios.
The employees themselves have to go through rigorous challenges and mechanisms to get used to the business environment which currently prevails, and while doing so, have to overcome challenges adhering to the changing circumstances. This challenge can be both anxious prone and an exciting prospect at the same time, making them go through the grind.
This challenge is not only curtailed to the business environment, as at times life teaches us to go through the same terrain. Here I touch upon the situation, when I myself had to overcome such a challenge. As I used to be an introvert person, one who rarely shared his thoughts or ideas with others, I rarely had the sense or experience of how to manage people as a leader. So, it happened that I was made the group leader of a project to be submitted and presented to our teacher. At that point, I barely had any idea on how to go about the same. Moreover, no one in my team believed that we could do this task. At that point, I felt that I should come out of my cocoon and inculcate the belief in my peers, that we can perform the given task at hand. So, I got to know about each individual’s personality and his or her core strengths, and assigned the work accordingly. Thereon, we worked rigorously and came up with a project, we (at least I) was really proud of. We came second in a group of ten, but the result rarely mattered to me. It was the group mission that I was really proud of, and how I as an individual overcame the fright/ challenge which mattered to me.
This was a brief account of how I overcame a minor challenge, but how it majorly impacted me as a person.
