If you are an Indian, doesn’t matter which area of India you live in, doesn’t matter what income group you belong to, doesn’t matter what products you use or which brands you are loyal to, it is highly unlikely that you have survived and lived so far without ever coming across a Aditya Birla Group product. Whether consciously or unconsciously, every Indian uses Aditya Birla Group products proactively. In fact the shirt I am wearing right now, branded Peter England is manufactured by Aditya Birla Group. That is the kind of association we have developed with this brand. The house we live in constructed using the cement from UltraTech Cement is a Aditya Birla brand. The phone network many of us use, formed from the merger of Vodafone – Idea cellular networks is a big player in the telecom market. Most of the clothes the middle-income age group wears are produced under the umbrella of Madura Garments and Grasim. Hindalco Aluminum is one of the major players in the aluminum and copper market in India. Besides the products listed above, Aditya Birla group also plays a major role in the services offered in the financial sector via Birla Global Finance Ltd and Birla Sun Life Insurance Co Ltd. It has also a marked presence in the manufacturing of industrial chemical and mining of minerals. Aditya Birla group has a presence in over 20 countries, which is a thing of pride for Indians and has a presence in various sectors all over the world.
It was the first month of work and being new to the corporate lifestyle just straight out of college, I was a bit overwhelmed. I was attending my first team meeting with the Vice President of my unit. The agenda of the meeting was a product that my team had recently acquired after my company’s acquisition of another company. The product was relatively new and the seniors of the team were spending time trying to understand the finer workings of this product in order to make it compatible with other products of my company. The VP wanted a feature added to the product, which required the knowledge of Python. Being the only one in the team with the knowledge of basic Python, my manager referred me to take up the job with a commitment period of 2 weeks. I undertook the work but then on further probing realized the feature required a thorough understanding of the product and it will need to be done from scratch. So I went to my tech lead and understood the whole product and then started learning Advance Python from Internet on the fly as I progressed. I worked round the clock and I delivered not a very efficient but a working feature. This has been one of the most testing period for me. Before this not getting an admission via IIT-JEE after preparing day and night was definitely heart breaking, but every failure in my life has been a stepping-stone, pushing me to strive for better results.
