PRATYAKSH SALVI

Started in Pilani Rajasthan with cotton trading, the Birla family in 165 years has put their presence on the globe.

Now the Birla group has evolved into a network of companies that have 1,20000+ employees spread across 35 countries and built an enormous business empire of Rajasthan's Birla Company's largest company, Aditya Birla Group.

A company that started from the desert of Rajasthan built around five core values Integrity, Passion, Commitment, Seamlessness, and Speed. ABG not just focused on making profits but touching the lives of others via various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and developing sustainable and innovative technologies are another milestone affected by the group.

Various CSR projects that help underprivileged school children, empower women by training and inspiring them to become entrepreneurs and help mother earth by investing and promoting aluminum recycling. The group is significant in my life in the sense that it inspires me to see the bigger picture by helping, evolving, and being aware of the people and the environment around us. The idea of supporting underprivileged and taking care of nature while keeping all the stakeholders pleased encourage that an individual can also achieve big and spread good deeds.

Coming to the biggest challenge I faced is that most of my life was not to have a purpose to focus my energy, not to have a destination to reach, and not knowing what results to expect. Having no target is like throwing a beam of light into the void of outer space, acquired/ing knowledge without a goal is of no use. I always knew my interests but was finding it challenging to put those to work. In the quest -call it an epiphany, or coincidence, or "that is what I was looking for"-  moment. I came across an article from The Financial Times (Nov 2017) that read, "An MBA student with an understanding of the risk, the potential solutions and importantly the opportunity around climate change- are the real asset to future the business world." It was this moment I realized the quest has ended, and I can combine my interests to contribute to the fight against climate change from the business perspective. After that I started implementing solutions in the company I was working like "NO PAPER" program, I got enrolled and completed the online program Climate Change: Financial Risks and Opportunities conducted by Imperial College Business School London. The course helped to gauge the climate challenge from a business perspective and also helped me pick the path of the MBA program. I believe climate change is intricately linked with the ways businesses have made money over the past two decades, and also I think the solutions lie with the corporates only. In this way, the challenge of finding the purpose was achieved, but in doing so, it gave me another challenge to look forward and to achieve, the challenge to solve climate problems.
