# Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
Aditya Birla Group has been catering to needs of millions of Indians since over century now. The Birla’s have been one of the oldest and most respected business family in India. Their devoted efforts have helped in making them India’s third largest Private sector conglomerate. Although they have presence in numerous sectors, ABG is particularly known for Ultratech Cement, Aditya Birla capital, Vodafone Idea, Pantaloons fashion & retail and Hindalco industries.
My association with ABG started when I got my first mobile phone and was searching for new sim. After talking to many people, I zeroed in on Idea as my network provider and till this date I have been using the same sim card. I still remember how More changed the whole shopping experience for me as a kid. Earlier shopping going to shopping was considered to be a boring tedious task but More transformed the experience. Be it riding the trolleys, putting chocolates on the billing counter without your parents noticing or checking out the recently launched products. More helped in making grocery shopping, an activity which was burdensome and usually carried out by only elders, into something which the whole family can enjoy together and bond over. This precisely has been the major reason behind ABJ success. They have positioned almost all their brands towards the goal of family bonding: Be it launching the family data sharing plan for idea, pantaloons as a one stop solution for all your clothing needs or transforming grocery shopping experience with More.
Even on the CSR front ABG has worked towards economic development of the communities especially in the weaker sections of society to raise the country's human development index. Their work in 5000+ villages is testament of the companies commitment towards building a better society for everyone.
# Challenge I faced
Like ABG never shies away from new challenges and tries to take challenge head on, during my job even i had to face a challenge and I handled it head on. The challenge was that SAP had been recently implemented in the company and there were many problems in its day to day running. Reluctance to change and lack of proper training were the main reasons behind this. A team of 4 people including me from different backgrounds was formed to address the problems at ground level and iron out the issues to streamline the process. Since it was a new system, the issues were diverse and in abundance. I was made responsible for streamlining the SAP in Purchase. Since I was from Planning, I started spending time with purchase team to understand their issues. But some Managers saw this as an interference in their work. When I wasn’t able to convince them, I started interacting with Trainees in Purchase during lunch to collect their feedback for the system. After getting enough data, I worked on some modifications, showed it to my seniors and finally presented to the Purchase HOD. He was impressed by the proposed suggestion and instructed his team to cooperate. And hence with continuous review and customization we managed to achieve error and hassle-free running of the software.
This never give attitude is the reason why ABG has been ruling the business world and our hearts since more than 160 years and even i am trying to inculcate it in my life.
