I still remember the day, I received my first salary of, Rs.20,000. In the perspiring heat of Delhi, I managed to reach the gates of the colossal Pacific Mall, Subash Nagar. Although, I knew the mall was extravagant, still I decided to walk through those auto sliding doors of the mall. I had never purchased a men’s shirt before and this was the time when I wanted to surprise my father.
With a heart brimming with anxiety, I surfed through the various stores of the mall but couldn’t find anything that would fit my price range of Rs. 1,500. Soon, the realization dawned upon me, that maybe I had entered the wrong place. That is when, my eye fell upon a mannequin dressed in a bright blue shirt, displayed in front of an Allen Solly store.
I instantly fell in love with the shirt and started taking small unsure steps towards the store. The thought, of not being able to purchase that shirt, haunted my mind for the next few minutes until I finally stepped inside.
The sales representative received me with a pleasant smile on his face. In a low tone I asked him the price of the shirt. “Rs. 1,400” he politely replied. The despondency was instantly replaced by a smile that stretched across both the ends of my face. Immediately, after purchasing the shirt, I googled the company that owned the brand Allen Solly and Aditya Birla Group it was! My father was delighted, with the quality of the shirt so much so that it is now the brand that he always prefers to wear.
My uncle is one of few vendors of CPW chemical produced by Grasim. From the lunches of thousands of Indians, which are wrapped in Freshwrapp foil, to the buildings that are constructed with UltraTech Cement, the group has a major share in creating value for its customers. I purchased my first ever pair of shorts from Forever 21.
Challenges I Overcame To Achieve My Ambitions
I believe that the beauty of life, is deeply ingrained in the challenges that the humans encounter every single day. Regret, suffering and failure nourish our core values by challenging our existing norms and skills. I have encountered many failures in life. Even before writing this article, I confronted rejection from something I primarily wished for. In my opinion people who succeed at every endeavour they take, are oblivious to the taste of success. Only a person who has failed several times in life understands the value of being a winner and that person refines his skills at every point in life, in order to nurture his position. To be honest there have been many occasions when I wasn’t able to achieve the goals that I set for myself, but instead I always ended up with something that enhanced my capabilities and moulded me into a better human being.
The constant brush of failure teaches humility and empathy towards others. Repetitive success only leads to stagnancy and creates an inflated mist of disbelief in one’s capabilities. A positive mindset coupled with the right attitude is important in order to achieve our ambitions in life. We indulge in introspection of our own competencies only when we are not successful. And in those moments of introspection, we take the supreme decision to improve ourselves. I always believe in moving forward in life while optimally seizing the opportunities that I already have. Life is too short to be wasted over the moments that never belonged to us.
