‘Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life’

Aditya Birla Group, a US 44 billion conglomerate is a name that each generation has heard of at some point in their lifetime since independence. This conglomerate functions in 34 countries across 5 continents and has an employee force of 120000 employees from 42 nationalities.

The organisation has touched millions of lives across the nation and so did it touch mine. This becomes even more important because I come from a small town called Palampur, located in the foothills of Dhauladhar ranges in Himachal Pradesh. A place with limited resources and with limited corporate offices or conglomerates present, I knew ABG through it famous “Ultratech Cement”. Building a house is a dream of any family and when it came to trust, I remember visiting the hardware store with my father who asked for the supply of only Ultratech cement. My first sim card I possessed during my under graduation was an “Idea 2G card”. Situated in the hilly terrain of Himachal, Idea was the only network we used to receive at our campus. That Idea sim card “Truly changed our lives Sirji”. Going to college comes with a desire for a new set of apparels and formals and my first choice for formals was Van Heusen. Having a formal suit of Van Heusen made me feel rich. Little did I know at that time that brands like Allen Solly, Van Heusen and Louis Philippe were part of “Madura Fashion and Lifestyle”. These brands personify style, luxury and comfort. Today Madura Fashion & Lifestyle, a division of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd, is one of India’s fastest growing branded apparel companies and a premium lifestyle player in the retail sector.

Talking of Retail fashion, Pantaloons and People were the first lifestyle store to be opened at Kangra district near my hometown, which lacked the presence of any kind of other apparel brands. I always loved the styles and designs of the brand “People”, which I extensively purchased from while I was at Bangalore for my first Job.

My experience with ABG brands grew when I worked in Bangalore and relied on “More” for my day to day grocery shopping. “More” definitely made my life easier. Over the course of time I understood other lines of business of ABG, such as my favourite drink – coca cola – was packaged in aluminium can made at Hindalco aluminium plant and that Liva fibre was an ABG product. With it vast scale of operation and multiple business lines such as Aditya Birla capital – whose hoardings greet us at the Mumbai airports to the payments bank, textile business (Grasim) and chemicals business- Aditya Birla Group never fails to surprise me.

Besides it business activities the conglomerate also has a Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development which is responsible for CSR activities across domains of child education, health, water and sanitation, provision of mid-day meals and skill development in rural regions.

Aditya Birla group with its unique product offerings and services has influenced millions of lives across the globe since decades. Aditya Birla group employees a huge workforce and gives the talented “people” an opportunity to display their “Metal” to the industry Leaders and leave a “carbon” footprint through their journey.

‘How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far’

“Smooth seas don’t make skilful sailors", and a life without challenges and obstacle is not worth a ride. Obstacles and challenges are an integral part of one’s life and overcoming these challenges is something that defines an individual and his metal. Coming from a rural background with limited opportunities and resources I faced a lot of challenges when it came to seeking information about Career opportunities, seeking guidance or information gathering about avenues, however my parents always taught me to be committed to my goal, work persistently and be resourceful to avail any information from whatever resource I could get my hands on. My interest in engineering from the very beginning made me pursue B.Tech for my under graduation .Despite of my parents being doctors, my father always taught me that passion and hard work were one of the most important things I could do be successful and he motivated me to follow my dreams.

As taught in childhood, one should always keep trying and trying and not be bothered by failure but as we grow into adults we seem to forget this very fact and become impatient. However, I always believed that great things take time and patience was definitely required to achieve success. After all “Rome was definitely not built in a Day”. Appearing for a B School entrance exams, this patience for two years and my dedication to crack the exam finally paid off.

As it is rightly said “there are no great men in the world but great challenges which ordinary men rise to meet”, I believe I am not an extraordinary person , however an ordinary person with an excellent work ethic and a positive outlook who sees an opportunity hidden in every challenge to learn something new.
