Handling Challenges
“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” ― Molière
As far back as I can remember, I had this fear of speaking in front of groups. The earliest memory of this fear showing up was when I was to give a presentation on a stage, and I backed out the last minute. I started to develop a pattern of avoiding such opportunities which require speaking on stage or addressing groups.
But an event that helped me overcome my fear head-on was when my school officials notified me it was my duty to address as I topped my batch. I kept thinking about the horrifying scenarios like audience laughing at me and wondering whether my voice was good enough. At the end of the speech, I didn’t fail as miserably as I thought would be. I then realized that the only obstacles that stop us from reaching new heights and unlocking our potential are irrational fears based on pre-conceived notions and the boundaries by which we restrict ourselves.
