Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
Aditya Birla Group is one of India’s biggest multinational conglomerates, founded 162 years ago, has been leaving a mark on all the lives it comes across, in more ways than known to one. From touching industries of all variants, be it apparels, chemicals, fertilizers, BPOs and more, it has one of the most diverse portfolios amongst other global conglomerates. On its path to successfully pursue its mission of “Delivering superior value to customers”, it has impacted millions of lives, one of it being mine.
Growing up in a big metropolitan city like Kolkata, to be confident you need to look the part. Be it dressing up for my friend’s party, to going for a marriage, to sitting for a big corporate interview, I always got my answer at one of Aditya Birla Group’s in-house brands. From Louis Philippe to Allen Solly and one of their biggest purchases, Pantaloons, each one has been the answer to a different question of mine. Since I was a young teenager, to a young adult, it has been a major support factor for me. Going through the insecure adolescent years, to the intimidating years of young adulthood ABG’s apparel brands gave me the sense of confidence, security and a bright smile.
In conclusion, my journey was just a small part of the large array of stories, forming a beautiful book for all to read. I’m sure in the coming days, it will take on more roles in my life apart from my fashion answer. I will be awaiting the same.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
Life is like a roller coaster ride, filled with ups and downs. Like any other, mine was also filled with a fair share of bumps, some simple , some extremely difficult to overcome.
My biggest challenge, on the professional side, has been my dry spell in sales. While I was working as a senior sales manager in Zomato Media Pvt. Ltd., I had a healthy streak in terms of performance, which led to my quick promotion. But just post that, there was a time, for 2 months, where not only did I not meet my bare minimum targets, but underperformed by a big margin. While heads started to turn and people started pointing fingers, I knew I had to take onus of the situation , so I proposed and executed a first of its kind movement. In this , I would acquire all old/lost clients of Zomato by providing special packages and increase the city billing by a huge margin. I managed to successfully complete the aforementioned plan, irrespective of criticism, and managed to perform 3x of my monthly targets. Post this, this become a tri-monthly practise across office.
My biggest challenge, on the personal side, so far has been my speech. Ever since I was a teenager, I was suffering from a speech disorder, due to which, I would slur during a conversation and often would end up eating my own words. Communication is one of the key factors essential for any budding entrepreneur or manager or in any sphere of life. Learning this at an early stage in life I had to ensure I got this cured. Henceforth, I started with speech therapy sessions and had practise sessions each day for at least 2 hours. After 3 years of speech therapy, my speech finally became perfect, if not close to it.
While there were various other challenges as well, these two felt like a perfect summary of what kind of challenges I underwent in both my personal and professional life. These have helped me not only grow as an individual, but also prepared me for future challenges, come what may.
