Aditya Birla Group in my life. Challenges are the best teachers.

The first form of security a person seeks in his life is a roof above his head. Coincidently, it also is the most difficult thing to do. The reason for it being so difficult is because of the pandemonium that is our construction sector. Due to severe lack of knowledge regarding construction techniques and the presence of a huge unorganised sector in this industry, it becomes a tedious task to search for the optimum combination of project planning, execution team and completion procedures in order to get the best out of the applied resources. Aditya Birla Group helped me in this endeavour of mine and showed me the path that led to my very own sweet abode.

When the elders in my family decided upon constructing a new house, little had they known that a giant conglomerate of the likes of Aditya Birla Group, via its subsidiary, Ultratech Cement, will come to our aid. The representatives of Ultratech Building Solutions helped me in various ways like the basic project estimation, getting together a development team, supply of raw materials and the final finishing touch-ups. As someone rightly said “It is not the beauty of a building you should look at; it’s the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time”, and the presence of Ultratech Building Solutions Team gave me this confidence that the building I constructed won’t let my expectations down. They made my journey much smoother compared to the roller coaster ride it would have been if it weren’t for them.

A Challenge is a Training.

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." — Helen Keller

Challenges have a unique ability to bring out the true nature of a person. The way he reacts when faced with an obstacle shows how he truly perceives the world. These challenges bring out the best as well as the worst in an individual. Such a challenge did appear in my life and now when I sit and think about it, in hindsight, I realise that it was the turning point in my life which helped me to develop myself as a mature and responsible person that I am today.

The challenge that I had to face in my life is the rift in my family. I have been brought up in a joint family where even the business is jointly owned and managed by the family members. My father is the youngest of three brothers. He and his brothers have worked together from a very young age and were successful in creating a niche for themselves in this competitive world. But since last few years, there have been conflict of interests going on between them. Due to this, there were several heated discussions that took place regarding splitting up of the business and its assets. My father, being the youngest, was not being able to speak up to his elder brothers as is our tradition. Due to this, his interests were being overshadowed by the interests of my uncles. After my graduation, I directed my attention towards this matter and represented my dad when it came down to discussions during the family meetings.

After several such meetings and arguments, a consensus has been achieved of winding up of the business and relocating to the city where my dad wants to spend the rest of his life i.e. Rajkot. In order to do that, I shifted to Rajkot, searched for suitable properties, bought and renovated it and have finally prepared a home for my parents.

The two major lessons I learnt from this incident or rather this chain of incidents are

  • To never trust someone blindly even if he is a member of your family.
  • To always fight for what you consider is right even if others are not willing to take part in your fight.
