A mother’s love is often invisible but it’s always there. Just like that, Aditya Birla Group has an invisible but invaluable presence and touches millions of lives across the nation and the world. ABG has been an indispensable part of my life, half of which I was unaware about all this time. With Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd selling in-house brands such as Allen Solly, Van Heusen,etc and operating a multi brand fashion retail chain Pantaloons has made smart fashion accessible and affordable for us. Idea has been my service provider for years since the time I started using a cell phone and now Vodafone-Idea has become the largest telecom company in terms of subscribers and revenue. UltraTech, the nation’s largest cement manufacturer helps in building the nation’s infrastructure like the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai. Hindalco the world’s largest aluminium rolling company and one of the biggest producers of primary aluminium produces roofing sheets which has been used for a shed at my residence. The aluminium is also used to make cover glass for smart phones which we use every day. The group is the top carbon black manufacturer in the world. The carbon nano particles in tyres makes them safer. The copper requirement by Indian railways is fulfilled by Birla copper limited. ABG subsidiaries are the largest caustic soda producers and the 8th largest urea manufacturers. ABG is the largest producer of porcelain insulators in India. The group’s CSR activities include, setup of 4500 women empowerment groups ,90 million polio vaccinations, treating over a million patients at their health camps and hospitals and installing a 1000 biogas plants. The group also has a presence in mining, wind power, financial services, retail and trading solutions.
“Fall down seven times, get up eight”-Japanese Proverb
Whenever I face challenges this is the one proverb that comes to my mind. I tell myself that no matter how matter how many times I fall I am going to stand up again. We overcome our obstacles in our own way. There is no problem without a solution. When I encounter a problem, I jot down the various courses of action and corrective measures I can take after doing some research. I also ask people who have been in the same shoes as me so that I can get some insights. Their advice and support remind me that I am not the only one who has faced such a challenge and that if they can do it then I can do it too. I talk about my obstacles to the people close to me who actually listen to me and give me their support. I also pray to God to show me the right way.
I listen to motivational Ted talks, podcasts, read inspirational success stories to keep me going. In the book ‘Grit: the power of passion and perseverance’, Angela Duckworth uses study after study to show how grit leads to success much more than talent or natural ability does. Whenever we face obstacles, we need to remind ourselves that there is no success without failure. We need to accept our mistakes instead of dwelling on them. We need to create a positive mindset learn from our mistakes. This will help us to find the opportunity to grow and use our mistakes to master our art.
