By laying its foundation in Pre-Independence era, starting with launching a cotton- and jute
trading business in town of Pilani, Aditya Birla Group has grown into one of the most premier
conglomerates in the world. With its presence in over 32 countries, the group sits on a vast
number of brands, with each brand unlocking value for the group.
From launching “Carry Your World” campaign; appreciating modern woman and her passion,
to being at the forefront for promoting the education of the girl child, Aditya Birla Group
touches many lives in its own unique way. One of the ways through which it touches my life
is its Fashion brands, ranging from high-end style brands like Van Heusen, Ted Baker to
medium range brands like Pantaloons, Allen Solly. In words of Bill Cunningham, Fashion is
the Armor to survive the reality of everyday life. In the same way, wearing the above brands
enhances my personality, instills a feeling of self-confidence and helps me to look presentable.
The other way, the brand touches my life is through its telecom services. Living away from my
family, reminds me of the love & care of my mother (which she sometimes displays through
little arguments that she has with me), makes me feel nostalgic and thus, IDEA 4G services
helps me to overcome this feeling by enabling me to video chat with my family.
Carrying forward the philosophy of its founding father GD Birla of returning back to the
society, the Aditya Birla Group heavily invests in creating sustainable livelihood for the
underprivileged segment, thus making a big difference in their lives. In a similar way, I am
driven by a passion to serve society and aim to work for the upliftment of the underprivileged ones.
To become 'unique,' the challenge is to fight the hardest battle which anyone can imagine
until you reach your destination – A.P.J Abdul Kalam
Challenges are inseparable part of life. Challenges help us to learn the lessons which can never
be learnt in any of the classroom and thus, help us to grow and develop as a person and more
importantly, help us to test our limits and capabilities and learn more about ourselves.
One of the challenges I faced was during my preparation for the UPSC exams. After failing in
both the attempts I appeared for, the fear of failure took upon me. I lost all my confidence, and
suffered from anxiety and depression. I undermined myself by thinking that I can never achieve
anything in my life.
On one fine day, I heard the TED Talk by Laxmi Agarwal and a sense of realization hit me that
this can’t be the end of my dreams of achieving big. And on that day, I promised myself not to
be afraid of challenges that would come in my way. Further, to give a boost to my career as I
already had a 2 year break after my graduation, I decided to prepare for CAT examination. The
first step in my CAT preparation was to list down all the mistakes and the lessons learnt during
the preparation of Civil Services Examination. It taught me the value of being patient,
perseverant, positive and most importantly ability to handle failures.
During my preparation of UPSC exams, I gained a lot of weight so, the other step was to gain
back my self-confidence and thus, joined aerobics classes to reduce my weight and started
meditating to gain back my motivation. And because of all the lessons learnt in my UPSC
exams preparation and hard work I putted in preparing for CAT, I secured an admission in one
of the best B-Schools in India.
I learned a great deal from the above experiences. It was a great challenge, while I had a tough
time of it but then I inculcated those values within me which helped me becoming a better
person.
