Aditya Birla Group is a big part of my day to day life. I use multiple products or services of ABG throughout the day, even without realising how dependent I am on those products. One such service which I use almost every minute daily is that of Vodafone Idea cellular service. I have been a Vodafone customer for more than 5 years now and am immensely satisfied with the service.
Vodafone has been like a bigger sibling to me. When I was a low spending, high utilization customer in my younger days and my spend was lower than the company’s ARPU, Vodafone understood it and still provided me its best possible service. When I wanted all of my family members in a single pack, it again helped me do that. When it was time for me to explore new shores, Vodafone was still there, providing me International roaming packs. All the while never complaining even when I forgot to pay it back for a few days.
When I was sombre, Vodafone, again like a bigger sibling, understood that and became a great entertainment source as well. The zoozoos or the cute pug earlier not only made me laugh, but helped me connect to them and they too became a part of my life.
And the level of involvement with mobile and OTT nowadays mean that Vodafone is a bigger part of my life than probably even any other person. All this has meant that I have been and plan to always remain a loyal Vodafone Idea customer. After all, who leaves a sibling?
While working as a Quality Analyst at my previous job, one of my tasks included testing each of the weekly release of the new build for the rectification of the bug we reported to the development team. For this, we had to download the new build from the NZ servers. We had to take the backup of the database file from the old database and and restore a new database out of this file. Now, we had to connect the database to the new version downloaded from the NZ server via inbuilt V6 connector and pass the certain parameters to it to run the new database successfully. And this process takes around 1 hr time. And this was the weekly task of every QA to perform these repetitive steps in order to test the new build. I thought of automating this task. Although, I was not in the development team and I was not fully aware of the background processes involved in the task, but still wanted to apply my technical knowledge from college to design such an application.
On my own, I started working on the project by taking time out from my daily responsibilities. I started researching about the background processes involved. How the whole function works, and the complexities involved, I created a layout and went to my manager to propose to him this idea. He really liked the idea and gave me the confidence to go forward with it. Consequently the development took it forward and developed it successfully, but the fact that I could contribute towards the betterment of the processes at the company, ultimately saving the resources of the company, gave me a great sense of achievement.
