I come from a family where Aditya Birla Group plays a major role. My father works from the last 25 years at Jayshree Insulators, a Aditya Birla group company. Since childhood i have heard a lot of about The Birla Group. The legacy started with Seth Shiv Narayan Birla and is currently run by Kumar Mangalam Birla.
Kolkata has a different connection with the Birla’s. Living in Kolkata since birth, i have seen Schools, colleges, temples, planetariums and medical institutes all around me which are run by the Birla’s. Not only Kolkata, but Birla Group has architecture all around India. They contribute to their social responsibility by provide people with educational institutions, health care, etc.
Since 1850s, the Birla group is expanding rapidly. They have set up industries in different sectors such as Grasim, textiles, fibres, aluminium, cement and chemicals. It has now ventured into online fashion retail through a platform called abof, targeting the country’s millennial spenders through curated fashion. The timing is significant as India’s booming online retail industry is witnessing pitched battles, especially in the electronics and fashion categories.
Its contribution in the field of healthcare is commendable. Over a million patients treated at 5,000 medical camps and our 20 hospitals annually. They have helped immunise 70 million children against polio over the last 7 years. For the last 3 years, they have been working with Rotary International on non-resurgence of polio. They provide social responsibility with not only healthcare but also through educational institutions, architectures and may more. Aditya Birla Group ingrains positivity into my life in some way or the other.
PART - B (OVERCOMING CHALLENGES TO FULFIL THE AMBITION)
I was 12 years old when I decided that I want to make career in the field of commerce. This came as a shock to my aunt who always wanted me to make my career in science. But I was a student who always disliked science. Till class 8 I somehow managed with science but I gave up when chemistry and physics came into picture. I was very clear that I will take up commerce as it always exited me. So in class 11 I took up commerce as my stream.
During this time, I also started thinking about what I want to do in future. After thinking for a few months, I decided I want to do MBA. So, after my school I wanted to take up BBA as my undergraduate course. I wanted to get into the top BBA college in my city but looking at my past academic records it was difficult. I was an above average student. To get into top BBA institute I had to get at least 90+ in my boards. 3 months prior to my board exams I started preparing for it and this paid off as I scored 95+.
Now, comes the challenge of MBA. Getting into a good B-School was difficult but what was more difficult is to convince my parents for going out of the city to study. I somehow convinced my parents that its about my career and that is the most important for me. They also wanted me to be successful and happy in life as it was always what I wanted to do. So here I am, pursuing my MBA.
