Q: Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
When people hear the name Aditya Birla Group the first thing that comes to mind is cement. Ultratech cement needs no introduction in India. What people, in general, fail to realize is the fact that ABG is so much more than cement. The conglomerate is woven into the very fabric of our nation accelerating growth both for the company and the country. In other words, ABG is big in India, in all our lives.
From Cement to Chemicals, from Textiles to Telecom, from Fashion to Finance ABG has touched all our lives in one way or another. I still remember seeing truckloads of Ultratech cement being used in the construction of my home. ABG touches me every time I step into my home and I trust the brand enough to know that our family shade is intact and safe.
New India is big on fashion and ABG is not going to let that market go. The multiple brand concept of the company and the desire to cater to the needs of a diverse population is what makes the fashion segment stand apart. ABG sells a piece of garment every 2 seconds via their individual brand stores and multi-brand fashion retail store Pantaloons.
ABG is instrumental in creating India's largest telecom operator Vodafone Idea Limited through a merger between the two telecom giants. Fast and uninterrupted communication is the need of the hour and the success of this venture can be gauged by looking at the subscriber base and revenue generated which is highest in the Telecom sector.
Apart from the above Aditya Birla Capital provides end to end financial solutions and services under one roof. Hindalco Industries is the leader in aluminium and copper. ABG is also the largest manufacturer of Carbon Black worldwide.
The social footprint of ABG in community development is unparallel. Education and medical facilities for the underprivileged is just a small segment of the large philanthropic design which is in making to raise the human development index of our country.
Q: How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
Challenges are what shape us as human. It is the pressure to our fossil, the end product being a diamond. The best thing about the challenges that life throws at us is that no matter whether we overcome it or we fail in doing so, both the instances shape us and build us. The only instance where we do not grow is if we try to avoid them.
As a child, I was weaker than my counterparts and used to get sick a lot. I stopped going out to play in fear of getting injured. But my parents pushed me and eventually, I started getting involved in outdoor activities. After a certain point, I realised that our mind is a great influencer on our body. If we always think about getting sick we would definitely fall ill more often. This mindset changed my entire personality and as time went by I became physically fit and more confident. I just wasn't the sickly boy anymore.
After my 12th board, I dropped a year for IIT preparations but was not able to convert. Till date, I am not sure whether the decision for dropping a year was correct or not. I was dejected initially and thought that the world has ended. After that, I joined my Alma Mater IGIT and life was good once again. I completed my degree, got a job and considered that dropped year as a life lesson.
These are some of the challenges life threw at me. In some cases, I succeeded and failed in some, but I never stopped learning.
