You must be living under a rock if you say that you’ve never heard about the Aditya Birla group. It carries with it a legacy of trust and values. Starting as a mere jute manufacturing company in 1919, Aditya Birla group has touched millions of lives in almost every sector such as cement (UltraTech), aluminium products (Hindalco), textiles, readymade garments (Grasim), life and general insurance products, financial services, telecommunications (Idea Cellular), BPO and software services not only in India but globally. Aditya Birla Group has made its mark in countries like Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines, Egypt, China, Canada, Australia, USA, UK, Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malaysia and Korea.

Aditya Birla group has made its presence noticed in the world by being globally ranked 1st in aluminium rolling, 1st in viscose staple fibre, 1st in carbon black, 4th in production of insulators, 5th in production of acrylic fibres.

Aditya Birla group is well known for its corporate governance and financial management and has shown the capability of creating large scale profitable businesses. Aditya Birla group has also made a step towards environmental conservation by operating 20% of Idea’s telecom towers through hybrid power, which reduces the carbon dioxide emissions.

When I reflect upon my daily life and my surroundings, I feel astounded to see a scale with which ABG has affected my life. From making calls from a network that is owned by ABG to wearing a crisp suit tailored by Peter England. From investing my money in Birla Sun Life Digital Funds to staying in buildings which were constructed using UltraTech cement. The impact is huge.

It is very hard to find people who have had an easy life and have reached a place where most people only dream of reaching. Hardships are the crucible which refines and brings out the real ‘you’, what you were meant to be. It happened with me in my seventh standard. My family faced a financial roadblock. Being lower-middle-class family money was always an issue with us, but this had crippled my family’s bank balance. I couldn’t do anything about it, but the financial crunch was getting to me. I got mildly depressed and began losing focus in the classes. I also started skipping the homework because of which my notes were incomplete to the extent that I had a total of twelve pages of notes in one of my notebooks just before the annual exams. Then one day my class teacher called up my parents and told them about my notes and conditions. After returning from the meeting, my father called me and explained to me that the financial crunch that we were facing had nothing to do with me and I must focus on my studies and not worry about anything else. His words hit me hard and I began preparing for my exams. When the results were out, though there was a slight dip in my percentage marks, but I still passed gracefully. Because of this incident, I strongly believe that a few words of care and motivation from someone you idolise can go a long way.
