The history of Aditya Birla Group is even older than the independence of the nation where it was created. The product mix which the Aditya Birla Group offers not only enhanced the life experience of people it serves but also provides employment to many in the nation. Their history and CSR contributions have been so huge that even 5000 worded essays would do it injustice.
So rather than diving into a very holistic view of the group I would like to share how ABG has affected my life personally for the better.
I have always been a food lover and eating my lunch during the school days are one of my fondest memories. I remember my mother waking up early to make me my tiffin which used to be the most extravagant one in the whole class, from pastas to parathas every cuisine were her forte, the line of my classmates wanting to exchange their tiffin for mine, the feeling of happiness and pride. These agglomerations of feeling could have been only possible because my mother used the Freshwrap foils to cover my food, it kept my tiffin more compartmentalised, neat, presentable and moisture free hence preserving the freshness to an extent which was not easily possible with any other products of that time. Another way Aditya Birla Group contributed to my life was that the very first house we owned was made with the help of UltraTech Cement. From extreme heat to extreme cold, from calm comfortable days to tempestuous storms nothing could make us feel uncomfortable in the warmth of our home.
My first Golf tournament, the smell of fresh grass, the anxiety of what’s to come and my sweaty palm were what I thought I will remember that event by. But on the contrary what I more vividly remember is my 2nd hole eagle and my 3rd position reward, which was a set of Louis Philippe T-shirts. People say rewards are secondary and your experience is what’s important, I believe in a mixture of what they say, it is the experience which improve the value of reward but it’s the reward with which we associate our experience and memories with. For me those T-shirts tells the tale of an anxious young man’s efforts, hard work, learning and the joy it brings when you progress towards a goal in an constructive manner. I still have them both and wear them with pride and often remembering my tale of triumphant. My father who is an avid investor in mutual fund and equity owns shares of the Aditya Birla Group which he deems to have a fantastic future ahead. This investment would help me and my family in the future with its bountiful returns.
Challenge is something which is difficult to define.
They are very subjective in nature. In my opinion I understand it as a situation where you must work out of your comfort zone or/and work against all odds to attain your preferred outcome. So on basis of this hypothesis all challenges are of equal difficulty but what matters is your experience and learning you gain from it.
The most recent challenge I feel I was able to overcome was to convince my parents that e-sports is a viable option as a career and has good prospects in the future. It may sound trivial to most but for me its my passion. I had always been in love with e-games. I still remember the interview that I had given for Saint Joseph’s Academy in Dehradun for the admission to 1st class. It revolved around my competency of computer systems and the e-games I played on it. Eight years down the line 2009 I got an invitation to play video games at an international stage in Europe but being just at a tender age of 12 there were many social and economic restriction because of which I could not capitalise on it. Fast-forward to my 2nd year of my Under graduation at VIT, Vellore I came upon a fantastic opportunity to act as a game analyst for an e-games helping out many small Indonesian teams, this not only helped me gain more experience regarding the industry but also marked my first step towards the lifelong dream, being the pioneer and the maker of a standardised framework for e-Sports in India. After my graduation was completed I sat down and made a 20-minute presentation regarding the current scenario of e-sports in and out of India and the potential it brings with it to my parents. And at the end of it I saw a smile on their faces, was it happiness or relief, confusion or pride, I don’t know but one thing was sure that they now knew me for who I was and what I wanted to be, for now I had a clear-cut goal in my mind with the passion to back it up with. Next was the plan to do an MBA and understand the insights regarding these industries and their entrepreneurial opportunities. And hence I joined International Management Institute New Delhi, which would provide me an excellent place to grow, experiment and learn .
For me this challenge was something I had to overcome sooner or later, but more than that it was the light-house, guiding me towards my goal, teaching me the value of hard work, preparedness, how important mental simulations and iterative improvement approach are to achieve my dreams. So, for me the road towards my goals were and always would be defined by the challenges I faced along them. Overcoming each goal provides you with an insight but when you fail finding that one thing which motivates you through the thick and thin to try again is what really matters in the long run. Agglomeration of challenges and its solution finding is what gives meaning to my life and overcoming them one at a time is what motivates me towards my goal, with all my heart I believe somewhere down the line I would be the harbinger of a golden era for e-Sports in India as a whole.
There are numerous avenues where the ABG keeps on adding value to the lives of many, in one way or another, some apparent and others hidden. I firmly believe that the ABG would keep on adding value to my life and that of the people around the world. Slowly but surely, we all will realises how much ABG has contributed to the value addition of not only people but also the environment and the world as a whole which will reinforce the already ever important position ABG holds in our daily life.
