‘Why Aditya Birla Group is Big in my life’
Aditya Birla group, an Indian conglomerate spread in over 35 countries, with 120000 employees and operating in 13 different industry segments has touched millions of lives, not only in India but worldwide. I am not an exception. To talk about Aditya Birla Group’s impact in my life the iconic dialogue “Roti, Kapda, Makaan”(food, clothes, shelter) by legendary Mr. Amitabh Bachchan comes to my mind. Yes, Aditya Birla Group has fulfilled all the three most fundamental needs of mine and much more. ABG has touched our lives in one way or the other and without anyone of us realizing that we are surrounded by products made by ABG. ABG has been big in my life.
MORE products has been an integral part of my life. Not only it has taken care of my family’s grocery and vegetable needs but also personal care and other home need products all under one roof. Talking about ‘kapda’, Pantaloons has been one stop destination for all my shopping needs. Be it casual, semi-formal or formal everything I get under one roof from it’s in house brands like Allen Solly, Louis Philippe, VanHeusen, Peter England, Forever 21. I really love these brands. Coming to ‘Makaan’, we recently built an extension on our family house and guess what I saw UltraTech cement was being used there. And this extension had never been possible without the loan from Aditya Birla Capital.
Mobile phones have transformed our lives and today are a necessity after food, shelter and clothing. ABG’s Idea Cellular was one of the early telecom operators in India and it had come up with great plans. The first SIM card that I used was of Idea. Today, Idea in merger with Vodafone is India’s largest telecom operator.
I have spent most of my life in Kolkata and suburban Kolkata. So train travel was inseparable part of my life. And large share of the copper requirement for Indian railways is fulfilled by Hindalco. I touch Hindalco copper every other minute while I use my smartphone as its cover glass is made from Hindalco Aluminium. Living a city life is just impossible without car travel for me. And I never knew that the tire in every 2nd car in the world has Birla Carbon.
Being an active supporter in India’s independence struggle to contributing in nation building, ABG has been touching our lives and making a difference since it’s inception in 1857. ABG is now India’s 3rd largest conglomerate. This is really inspiring and fascinating for me that starting in a small town of Pilani trading in cotton the group has grown to this big.
‘How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far’
No good thing comes easy. Challenges are part of our life. It’s not an obstacle. It makes us strong.
I have stayed in a soil hut in my childhood and had dinner in 5 star hotel while working in TCS. I was raised in a colony and in a time when political unrest was at it’s peak. I have seen much more than what we see in movies. And now I am here in one of the premier B Schools of the country where there’s no unrest of any kind. I have seen a lot in my life till now.
Primarily I was not very good at chemistry in class XII. Two months before the board examination there was a test taken by my school and I got very bad marks in chemistry. After the test result came I went for a chemistry coaching. The teacher there was really good. I score good marks in chemistry in my higher secondary examination. As a result of this I even thought of studying chemistry honors.
My biggest achievement so far is being able to set up a new PAG (Public Action Group) in the course of my volunteering with CRY (Child Rights and You) in Kolkata. Me with my another volunteer friend did community survey and spoke to the people of the area about who we are and what we do and why they should send their children for the sessions that we were planning to conduct, tried to find a suitable place where we can conduct sessions on regular basis. I was able to convince the members of a local club to get the club room for weekly sessions. This PAG is now very successful. On an average 60 kids attend the session every week.
I aspire to keep on doing my bit for the society and develop personally & professionally in the best possible manner.
