Buying the first home is one of the most emotional and crucial decision for a middle class
family. Belonging to a nuclear family from tier 2 city, this decision was even more breath taking
for my parents. My father started his own business back in the 1990s. The beginning was humble
and breaking even was the primary goal. The struggle was real as the margins were shrinking
due to the increasing competition. But my father with his courage and risk taking nature had set
some goals. The most important one was to buy a plot and shift from the rented apartment. His
hard work and love for entrepreneurship enabled him to save a substantial amount to buy his
dream plot.
After buying a decent piece of land, the next critical decision was to construct a house on it. The
hired architect had suggested a blue print and the raw materials for this dream construction.
However, the material suggested by him was of substandard quality. My father knew the
importance of basic raw materials like quality bricks, cement, steel, sand etc. I still remember my
grandfather talking to my dad, giving him an important piece of advice “Ghar zindagi me ek bar
bnta hai beta”. My grandfather emphasized the importance of using quality material and he
convinced him to buy products of reputed market leader. Therefore, the family mutually decided
to buy Ultratech cement for this integral construction. It has been around 20 years now. The
walls and pillars of the house still stand beautifully. Sun and rain haven’t been able to impact the
build quality. The ability of this superior quality cement to hold the structure is supreme. The
impact of this product has been significant for my family.
It was during my 12th class that I got a chance to represent Chandigarh for the event Senior
National Handball Championship. After the competition, I appeared in my pre-board exams.
When the results were out, it was hard to believe that I had failed miserably in Chemistry and
barely passed in Physics. My school refused to issue me the admit card of board exams. I was
really frustrated as I had always performed exceptionally well in my academics. This was the
moment I realized that I was not able to manage sports and studies simultaneously. So, I had two
choices, either to quit sports or to pursue both of them. I accepted the challenge and decided to
study hard for my board exams as I had only a month to prepare. During this period, I worked
hard under pressure. Finally, I was able to achieve 95 marks in Chemistry boards with an overall
score of 91%. I also pursued my sports with the same passion. Then, I got another chance to
represent Chandigarh in Handball Nationals during my college years. Since then, I have been
able to manage time efficiently while keeping a positive attitude towards problems. Setting goals
and working hard to achieve them is an important part of my personality. This trait not only
gives me a target but also adds motivation in my life. Versatility has been another important
personality trait which has helped me to manage my career efficiently. Also, keeping a positive
attitude towards problems has given me the ability to overcome obstacles and develop a solution-
centric approach.
