Aditya Birla Group has been one of the most successful Indian Multinational Conglomerate. The company, headquartered in Worli, Mumbai, operates in about 35 countries, with almost 120,000 employees. Being the third largest conglomerate in India, it is almost impossible for a company of such a magnitude and legacy to not touch the lives of every person present here. The roads that we walk/drive on, the buildings that we spend time in, the clothes that we wear, etc., have somehow or the other been connected to the Aditya Birla Group.

During the 19th century, in the picturesque town of Pilani, set amidst the desert of Rajasthan, Seth Shiv Narayan Birla started trading in cotton, thus, laying the foundation of the House of Birla. It was in the 1850s when the Birlas started expanding their business rapidly. In the early part of the 19th century, Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla (one of the founding members of the group), set up industries in critical sectors such as textiles and fibres, aluminium, cement and chemicals. He was also a close confidant of Mahatma Gandhi and played a key role during India’s freedom struggle. He emerged as one of the foremost industrialists of pre-independent India.

The Group has been majorly known for its various sectoral businesses such as UltraTech cement, Aditya Birla Carbon, etc., but when it comes to fashion, Aditya Birla Group’s fashion brands namely, Allen Solly, Louis Phillipe, Peter England and their in-house brand Pantaloons, have always been my go to brands for anything and everything. Formal shirts, trousers, jeans, trendy t-shirts, footwear, you name it and you got it. With their variety of clothes, that have always been as per the latest market trends, these brands have always satisfied the needs of the end consumer be it comfort, fashion statement, price flexibility, etc. never compromising on quality.

Today, Aditya Birla Group has been reaching enormous heights and credit is to be given to their strategies, their planning, decisions taken in various situations, etc. However, credit should also be given to all the initiatives taken up by the Group to make the world a better place. Aditya Birla Group has been a firm believer of sustainability which can be seem through their various policies such as Crisis Management Policies, Environmental Policies, Future Proofing, etc. The Group’s vision, “to become a premium global conglomerate with a clear focus on each of the businesses” and their mission, “to deliver superior value to our customers, shareholders, employees and society at large.” has been intact for centuries.

As rightly pointed out by the Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, “Great businesses are never built on the quick sands of opportunism. I reiterate that, if living by our values means, perhaps growing at a pace slower than we would otherwise have liked, so be it. For us, leadership lies at the heart of knowing what we stand for.”
