Aditya Birla Group has affected lives of millions and many Industries from various domains. Aditya Birla Group was founded about a century before India’s independence and has been contributing to the society ever since. Grasim Industries Ltd, the flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, was incorporated on 25 August 1947, just 10 days after India became independent. The firm then manufactured textiles from imported raw materials. Grasim is now a global leader in viscose staple fibre. In 1965, Basant Kumar Birla started Eastern Spinning Mills and Industries. In 1969, Aditya Vikram Birla started Indo-Thai Synthetics Co. Ltd, the Birla family’s first overseas venture. He went on to set up 19 companies outside India—in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Egypt. Because of Aditya Vikram Birla’s contribution, Aditya Birla Group is the world’s largest producer of carbon black and the largest refiner of palm oil. It is also the largest Indian multinational with manufacturing operations in the US, according to the group’s website. In 1995, the firms Aditya Vikram Birla controlled had over Rs.8,000 crore in revenue globally, with assets of over Rs.9,000 crore, comprising 55 plants and 75,000 employees.
The textile companies of Aditya Birla Group have had a major impact on my purchasing pattern. It has provided me with a variety of options to choose from starting from suitable for all occasions right from trendy wear in Skult to formal wear in Van Heusen, Peter England, Allen Solly and Louis Philippe, from affordable wear in Pantaloons to luxury wear in The Collectives, Hackett. Due to such a large range of products, most of my wardrobe is filled with outfits from one of the brands of Aditya Birla Group.
One of the most difficult challenges I faced was my reading and learning disability at a young age. I used to read slowly and incorrectly and used to get confused between mirror letters like “b” and “d”, “p” and “q” and “m” and “w”. In order to overcome this issue, I started to watch English Television shows and movies which displayed subtitles. Since I was not accustomed to the British and American Accent, the subtitles played a crucial role in comprehending the dialogues. Since the subtitles used to disappear once a dialogue was delivered, it was extremely important to read the subtitles fast. This improved my reading speed and the dialogue voice helped me to reduce the mistakes made during reading. This helped me overcome dyslexia and improved my grades in school.
The other challenge that I faced was at my workplace during the summer season. I worked as a junior operations manager in a courier company where labour was the prime factor input. Due to excessive heat and humidity the number of absenteeism increased during summer season. This used to affect the operations and the business heavily as we were unable to meet the targets. In order to improve the situation, we made a couple of changes, we started providing the labour with a bottle of glucose water and gave them the metro route for delivery and pickups whereas the off metro route delivery was done through a transport vehicle which was taken on rent for the same purpose during the summer season. This helped in running the operation cycle effectively.
