An Idea! A gateway to nostalgia - Tapmi

I come from a humble background. I never really saw a cellphone up until I was in 5th or 6th grade. I still remember those side pockets my friend’s father used to have and wonder how it must feel to have a cellphone. So, you saw a cellphone and started using Idea cellular, is that it? Absolutely not! I can’t even imagine the feeling when I though what can I write about Birla group that had an impact in my life, maybe I’ll be able to write it out.

My father was an auto driver at the time. We are talking about 2004-2005. For me talking to him in the day time was the luxury we couldn’t afford. He used to call us from the public pay phone (I miss them too!). I remember me waiting for his call after I came back from school. After lot of my persuasion we bought a Nokia 1100. We didn’t know much about sim cards and the salesman recommended Idea and we bought the plan.

I was enthralled by the fact that I can speak with my father any time in the day. At dinner we talked so much about the technology and convenience of this device. We didn’t feel so attached to Idea and were just happy about being able to converse with each other.

Years went by and we were still using Idea nonchalantly. We used to laugh at advertisements of Vodafone and their zoo-zoos. They appealed to us, but the thought of switching never really crossed our minds. Looking back in hindsight today I don’t know what was going on in minds, maybe we were happy with what we had.

Then came the day when Jio announced its 4G data packs and other things with it. Like everyone else I switched my sim card to Jio. But when I tried to convince my father he straight away refused me. Then I realized how much an Idea means to us as a family.

I am just re-collecting these things right now. As they say memories just don’t come as we want them to but they show themselves when they sense that there is a need for them. I feel nostalgic writing this as I didn’t know I was missing out on such sweet memories.
